STEM Education has become framework of lifelong, life-wide, and life-deep across the word in Science Education. Some research investigated about how student comprehend science concept and its related into technology, engineering and mathematics lead to science conception in more deep insight. Pre service science teacher has important role to build and disseminate STEM approaches into science teaching practices. This study aims to investigate how preservice science teacher create STEM- based project concerning on essential science concepts. About 72 pre service students of Science Education Study Program in STEM course involved in this study who work in group of four students each. During eight weeks they begin with group discussion, group presentation to share their project idea, supported with journal review, preparing project, designed first project, peer review, improving project until finalizing projects. About eight from eighteen titles of their projects have been selected to be deeply analyzed further because of similar based science concept referred to changes in electrical energy into motion in some various project they created. The title projects are: a) electric broom; b) simple mixer; c) mini vacuum cleaner; d) Air conditioner recharge; e) blender; f) earth rotation; g) locomotive; h) mini generator. Based on group discussion, group review, and interview there were found seven kinds of their understanding of STEM begin with lack explanation of scientific reason, theoretical explanation only, good explanation of scientific reason, ability to apply STEM in daily life, lack implementation of Reduce-reuse-recycle, and good implementation of reduce-reuse-recycle. Implication of STEM-based project into science teaching learning material have been discussed.
The preservation and development of Sipahutar pineapple is very important to do. One of the most effective ways is with tissue culture techniques. The aim of this research is to know the effect of 2,4-Diclorofenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), kinetin, and interaction of both Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) to callus induction on pineapple (Ananas comosus L.) from Sipahutar Sumatera Utara Indonesia. The design of this study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design, namely is 2.4-D with 3 doses of treatment (0, 1, 2 ppm) as the first and the second factor of kinetin with 3 doses (0, 0.5, 1 ppm). The observation process was conducted for 28 days and 35 days after induction. The parameters observed were the formation time of callus, callus color, callus biomass, and the height of callus pile. The results showed that 2,4-D, kinetin and interaction of 2,4-D and kinetin significantly influenced the time of callus formation, callus biomass, and significant effect on the height of callus pile. The time of callus formation is the fastest on day 8 after induction. The best of callus color is whitish green comes from 2,4-D 0 ppm and kinetin 1 ppm treatment. The highest biomass is 1.69 grams. The highest stack height of callus was 2.32 cm. The highest biomass, stack height, surface area of callus derived from the treatment of 2,4-D 0 ppm and kinetin 0 ppm.
This study aims to analyze the components of Biology Lesson Plan for reproduction system material in public senior high school in Mandailingnatal District. The research method was using quantitative descriptive study with a sample of 20 biology teachers from 14 public senior high schools in Mandailingnatal district. The research instrument used RPP document assessment sheets, observation sheets of instructional implementation and interviews. The results showed that Planning of learning implementation made by biology teacher in public senior high school in Mandailingnatal for reproduction system academic year 2015/2016 was categorized quite well planned with percentage 77%. As a follow-up of the results of this study is expected to teachers to be able to plan better, systematic and operational learning implementation by considering the characteristics of students, include a more appropriate evaluation instrument and more active in cooperation with the MGMP group to produce better learning.
The Effect of Inquiry and Cooperative Learning Model On Students Cognitive Skills in Animalia Topic in SMA Negeri 11 Medan. A Thesis. Medan: Postgraduate Program State University of Medan, 2016.This research aims to determine the effect of the learning model on: (1) Students Cognitive Skills in SMA Negeri 11 Medan. The research applied experimental queasy method research with 3 classes which were choosing by using cluster random sampling technique. The class X7 learn with inquiry learning model, class X8 with cooperative (Group Investigation) learning model, and while class X9 (control) with conventional learning model. The research instrument were the test of cognitive skills in essay test. The data analysis technique used Covariat Analysis at the level of significance α = 0.005 by using SPSS 21.0. The results showed that: (1) there was significant effect of learning model on students’ cognitive skills (F= 15.916; P= 0.000). The cognitive skills learn by inquiry learning model (87.46±5.404) is significant higher than cooperative (Group Investigation) learning model (83.13 ± 6.509), and conventional learning model (79.73±6.329). The study imply that expected to the teachers to be able to conduct inquiry and cooperative (Group Investigation) learning in Animalia topic as the effort to improve the cognitive skills.
