Descriptive survey research design method was employed for this study. The sample for this study comprised of 300 librarians in three Nigerian tertiary institutions in Cross River State. The questionnaire was the only instrument used for data collection. Frequency counts and mean were used to analyse the data collected. The study revealed that Facebook and Blogs are the most frequently used social media platforms for promoting library resources and services in the libraries. Findings also showed librarians utilize social media platforms in promoting two-way communication as the highest followed by making connections with library users easily, and provides forum for feedback and increases library users /usage and providing up-to date information in campus as the least. This study examined mobile phone apps and the utilization of library services in university of Calabar library, Nigeria. Four objectives and four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Survey research design was used. The population of the study constituted of all registered library users in the 2015/2016 academic session. The population was 4,265 registered users. A sample of 225 registered users was selected using purposive and accidental sampling techniques. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Pearson product moment correlation analysis was employed to test the hypotheses at .05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between Tweeter apps and the utilization of library services, (r=0.57*, P<.05, df=223, rcritical=.138); there was a significant relationship between Whatsapp and the utilization of library services, (r=0.47*, P<.05, df=223, r-critical=.138); there is a significant relationship between Facebook apps and the utilization of library services, (r=0.59 ⃰ , P<.05,df=223,r-critical=.138); and there is a significant relationship between Skype apps and the utilization of library services, (r=0.51⃰ , P<.0.5, df=223, r-critical=.138). From the result of the study, it was recommended among others that the use of mobile phone apps as communication infrastructure should be encouraged in the University of Calabar Library.
This study determined the relationship between entrepreneurial skills and retention ability among students of faculty of education, University of Calabar, Cross River States. Correlational survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised of UTME 2018/2019 academic session 200-400 level students and this was also used as sample. A validated research-made questionnaire with reliability range of 0.81-0.89 was used for data collection. The data collected were analysed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis showed that acquisition of indexing skills and book publishing skills significantly relate with retention ability. It was recommended among others that support grants from school management and government should be granted to graduates with passion and enthusiasm to set-up their own business ventures on indexing and book publishing upon graduation either from their various institutions or after graduation from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
This study examined utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) and library job operations in state university libraries in South-South Nigeria. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Survey research design was used. The population for the study constituted 143 librarians (professionals and paraprofessionals). A sample of 93 librarians was selected using purposive sampling technique. The instrument was validated by experts. The research data was analyzed with descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (One-Way ANOVA). All hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that there was a significant influence of online databases services on library job operations, (f=4.447*, P<.05, df=2,728, F-critical=3.00) and there was a significant influence of CD-ROM services on library job operations, (f=2.671*, P<.05, df=2,728, F-critical=3.00).From the result of the study, it was recommended among others that librarians should utilize more ICT tools to facilitate their job operations in the library. Librarians now perform their library operations utilizingInformation and communication technology which offers fast and increased alternatives to information resource gathering and research orientation bringing about accuracy and efficiency in university libraries and the entire library environment. This development as observed by Ani, Esin and Edem (2005) has created a shift from traditional information environment to electronic environment such as computer use, internet use, online services as well as online databases to library operations. The emergence of ICTs and other digital technologies and networks has dramatically brought innovations in librarianship. According to
