This study aims to analyze students’ creative thinking skills in answering the problem-solving questions. This study employs qualitative design, involving 110 fifth graders in Malang Municipality and Regency as the subjects. The obtained data were analyzed using the descriptive-explorative approach. The findings reveal that the high-achievers in Mathematics showed good skills in the aspects of fluency and flexibility, but were still struggling in the novelty aspect. The average-achievers showed good skills in flexibility aspects but were lacking in the fluency and novelty aspects. They showed an understanding of Mathematics problems but found it difficult to decide the solving strategies, and thus their answers were lacking in structure and less systematic. When solving a problem, the calculation made seemed rushing, was less careful, and frequented with trial and error strategy. The low-achievers showed difficulties in understanding the problems. Their answers were not systematic, not well-structured, and not detailed. This indicates that the low-achievers had not shown creative thinking skills in fluency, flexibility, and novelty aspects.

Problem-solving in mathematics is one of the skills that have to be mastered by elementary school teacher candidates. This study aimed to analyze the difficulties of prospective elementary school teachers at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) in item problem solving for mathematics. This research was a descriptive exploratory with a qualitative approach. The subjects were elementary school teacher education students at the UMM, who attended the Elementary School Mathematics Learning course II, totaling of 38 students. The instrument used was a mathematical problem based on HOTS, while the interview and observation referred to problemsolving strategies based on Polya's steps (ability to understand problems, ability to plan problems, ability to act based on a plan, and ability to re-check answers). Data analysis was performed by analyzing the written answer sheets of the subjects while coding and grouping the subject's learning styles. The data from the interview and observation were analyzed with content analysis. The results showed that students still experienced difficulties in all Polya's steps. The ability of problem-solving based on Polya's steps include understanding the problem, planning, and writing strategies, as well as carrying out activities according to plan. The results of the study stated that only 5.3% of students were in a good category. Students also have had difficulty in re-checking answers, because only 8% of students did the work correctly. It can be concluded that the ability of problem-solving in Mathematics based on Polya's steps was still relatively weak.
Kata kunci: Pembelajaran, Penilaian, HOTS ABSTRACTThe implementation of the 2013 curriculum requires teachers to conduct HOTS assessments. Basically the HOTS assessment must begin with HOTS learning as well. The results obtained based on observations at SIB Thailand are still found in (1) some teachers who still need updating of knowledge, especially the 2013 curriculum, (2) approximately 45% of students are still passive when taught and class activeness is often dominated by smart children. (3) in the learning process the questions made by the teacher are mostly still at levels C1-C3, and (4) the ability of students in critical and analytical thinking is very lacking. Based on the analysis of the problem, the purpose of this study was to improve the ability of teachers to learn and assess HOTS. The research method used is qualitative research. The results obtained include (a) the results of examples of HOTS learning and assessment devices which include lesson plans, (b) Student Activity Sheets (LKS), (c) learning evaluation, (d) HOTS assessment instruments, and (e) videos learning and assessment HOTS. Key words: Learning, Assessment, HOTS
The purpose of the study is knowing the increase of students' skills in writing narrative texts through learning activities with the contextual teaching and learning model in class IV A at Kauman 1 Malang Elementary School. Field data shows that students still write with that tend not to be coherent, short stories, and wrong in using PUEBI. This study uses the PTK method (Classroom Action Research). The research subjects were 31 students of class IV A SDN Kauman 1 Malang. The research was conducted in two cycles. Data collection uses tests and observations. The results of the study were obtained from student observations when learning activities and narrative text writing tests. The data analysis used in this study are two, qualitative descriptive and quantitative descriptive.Cycle I shows that students' skills in writing narrative texts have increased from pre-cycle test results with a class average value of 71.97 increasing to 73.84 on the results of cycle I and 77.87 tests on cycle II test results with the percentage of students completing in one class starting at 35.48% on the pre-cycle test results to 51.61% on the results of the first cycle test and 74.19% on the results of the cycle II test. The conclusion of this study is contextual teaching and learning can be used to improve students' narrative text writing skills.
