RESUMOO comprometimento da Geografia, do ponto de vista epistemológico e pedagógico, é compreender as relações entre sociedade e natureza, suas instabilidades e estabilidades, ao longo do processo de construção do espaço, seu objeto de estudo. Assim, que aspectos curriculares permitem uma aproximação ou distanciamento entre o ensino da Geografia e a educação ambiental, no sentido de pôr em evidência a construção da cidadania e o conhecimento social? Este artigo objetiva compreender como a educação ambiental, no âmbito do ensino de Geografia, se constitui e possibilita um trabalho pedagógico dinamizado e significativo, além de argumentar acerca de possíveis implicações deste trabalho sobre currículo escolar, no sentido de romper com velhas conjecturas e práticas em direção a formação cidadã na escola. A partir de uma revisão de literatura, procura-se a construção de um estado do conhecimento, com vista a formar um quadro analítico de questões sobre a temática.Palavras-chave: Ensino de Geografia; Educação geográfica; Currículo; Ensinoaprendizagem. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND GEOGRAPHY AT SCHOOL: CURRICULAR DIMENSIONS, POSSIBILITIES AND CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES ABSTRACTThe compromise of Geography, according to epistemological and pedagogical point of view, is to understand the relationship between society and nature, its instability and stability by means of the construction process of the space, its subject matter. Then, which curricular aspects allow an approximation or distance between the teaching of geography and environmental education, in order to highlight the construction of citizenship and social knowledge? This article aims to understand how environmental education, within geography teaching, is constituted and how it can provide a dynamic and meaningful pedagogical work. This article aims also to argue about possible implications of this pedagogical work on the school curriculum, in order to break away from old assumptions and practices about citizenship education at school. From a literature review, we seek to construct a state of the art of the knowledge in order to form an analytical framework of questions on this subject.
