Abstract. Biological activity of the iridoid glycosides extract from Linaria genistifolia (L.) Mill. has been investigated, namely its infl uence on the resistance of the winter wheat Odesschi 51 plant to the caused by the Fusarium oxysporum and Helminthosporium avenae pathogenic fungi root rot. Our results indicate that summary iridoid glycosides from this plant, containing four major known compounds: 5-O-allosylantirrinoside, antirrinoside, linarioside and 6-β-hidroxiantirride, can be successfully employed in biological control of the afore-mentioned wheat pathogens: it stimulates wheat grains germination and embryonic root growth in conditions of fungal infection.
The common wheat genotypes under study showed a differentiated variability in terms of suscep-tibility to septoria, brown rust, spike fusariosis, which made it possible to differentiate them into clusters and identify those with higher resistance to these diseases. Based on the assessments from 2020-2021, the varieties Trubion, Numitor, Urbanus, Python, Miranda, Centurion, Amor, Aneta, Neven, Messino, Nasnaga, Tika-Taka, Judița, Avenue, Speranța, Dacia, Transilvania, Selania, Avânt which have shown resistance to extreme drought, fungal diseases and high indices of the spike productivity elements can be recommended as the initial material for the breeding programs.
It was established that the environmental conditions strongly influence the fungal spectrum that causes the root rot of the stem base to common wheat in the conditions of the Republic of Moldova. In more severe conditions (high temperature, drought) the incidence of Fusarium equiseti increases. The interaction of common wheat with one of the causative agents of stem rot – F. oxysporum is determined by the combination, the orientation of the cross to obtain F1 hybrids, the temperature factor, which has a direct impact on seedling growth and transgressive potential of F2 segregating populations, a phenomenon with major importance for the improvement programs.
