People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), battling stigma, discrimination and coping strategies in Medan, IndonesiaBackground: People living with HIV/AIDS have a multiple problem, PLWHA has a decreased physical abilities effect immunodeficiency, but also having a psychological and social problems also increase their burden. The health provider should be a place for PLWHA to get the right information about HIV/AIDS, but they follow to stigmatize and discriminate against them.Purpose: To describe coping PLWHA face up to stigma and discrimination in health provider.Methods: A qualitative with a descriptive phenomenological approach with population of this research was people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Medan, Indonesia. The number of samples was of 10 respondent by purposive sampling technique. The criteria of the sample were PLWHA get treatment for ≥ 6 months and able to communication in Indonesia is well. Data collected with in-depth interviews and analysis by Nvivo version 12.0 trial.Result: Finding that four themes, the first; get stigmatize and discriminate from health workers, second; have a psychological impact, third; continue treatment to the health provider and fourth; Hoping in health services well.Conclusion: People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Medan Indonesia still having a positive coping to face stigma and discrimination in health provider and they keep continue to get treatment in health provider.. Keyword: People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA); Battling; Stigma; Discrimination; Coping StrategiesPendahuluan: Pelayanan kesehatan yang seharusnya menjadi tempat orang dengan HIV/AIDS mendapatkan pengobatan dan informasi yang benar mengenai penyakitnya, justru ikut menstigma dan mendiskriminasikan mereka.Tujuan: Untuk menggambarkan stigma, koping dan harapan ODHA di pelayanan kesehatan.Metode: Penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi deskriptif dengan populasinya orang dengan HIV/AIDS (ODHA) di Kota Medan. Jumlah partisipan sebanyak 10 orang yang diambil dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dengan wawancara mendalam dan data dianalisis dengan menggunakan software N.Vivo versi 12 trial.Hasil: Di dapatkan empat tema yaitu 1) Pernah mendapatkan stigma dan diskriminasi dari petugas kesehatan, 2) Pernah mengalalami dampak secara psikologis, 3) Tetap melanjutkan pengobatan ke pelayanan kesehatan, 4) Harapan pada layanan kesehatan.Simpulan: Orang dengan HIV/AIDS ODHA di kota Medan masih memiliki koping yang positif dalam menghadapi stigma dan diskriminasi sehingga ODHA tetap melanjutkan pengobatan di pelayanan kesehatan.
Background: Breast cancer brings negative impacts to women, particularly thosewho have undergone chemotherapy, not only physically but also mentally. The negativeimpacts on patients’ mental include a feeling of being failed to play their role as a woman,not having the ability to do anything, low self-esteem, and confidence loss. Thus, familysupport is necessary for anticipating negative self-esteem in breast cancer patients. Familysupport helps patients maintain and increase their self-esteem. Objective: The objectiveof this study is to analyze the relationship between family support and self-esteem inpatients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy at Haj Adam Malik Central Hospital.Methods: The study employed analytical correlational design with a cross-sectional approach.The research samples included all breast cancer patients who were undergoingchemotherapy at Haj Adam Malik Central Hospital in Medan City. The sampling selectionof this study used total sampling technique; hence the total sample number was 34.Spearman test was performed in data analysis. Result: The study suggested that 64.7% ofthe respondents received good family support and 66.7% of the respondents had a high levelof self-esteem. Besides, it was also obtained that there was a moderate correlation betweenfamily support and self-esteem of patients with breast cancer (p=0.01< α 0,05 with r =0.432). The results imply that better family support is the higher the level of self-esteemof patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy will be. Therefore, it isrecommended that each of the family members gives support to the patient in the form of care,information, and instrumental support, so that the patient will have better self-esteem andquality of life
Penularan covid-19 di Indonesia menunjukkan kecenderungan terus meningkat. Covid-19 menyerang hampir seluruh kalangan usia, namun kelompok usia lanjut dan orang yang mempunyai riwayat penyakit kronis (ko-morbid) memiliki risiko lebih tinggi untuk tertular covid 19. Salah satu penyakit kronis yang dimaksud adalah diabetes. Memiliki risiko tinggi tertular covid-19, membuat penyandang DM fokus pada pencegahan covid 19 dan sering lupa untuk mengontrol kadar gula darah. Tujuan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kesadaran penyandang DM untuk tetap melakukan kontrol kadar gula darah ditengan pandemic covid 19 di Kelurahan Dwikora kecamatan Medan Helvetia. Kegiatan yang dilakukan berupa pendidikan kesehatan tentang 4 pilar pengelolaan DM, pencegahan penularan Covid-19 dan pemeriksaan kadar gula darah. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan tetap memperhatikan protocol kesehatan yang telah ditetapkan pemerintah. Partisipan dalam Kegiatan ini sebanyak 27 orang meliputi 11 orang laki-laki dan 16 orang perempuan yang memiliki durasi menyandang DM > 10 tahun sebanyak 8 orang dan ≤ 10 tahun sebanyak 19 orang. Hasil pemeriksaan gula darah didapatkan bahwa sebanyak 19 orang memiliki kadar gula darah kategori normal dan 8 orang memiliki kadar gula darah kategori tinggi. Diharapkan melalui kegiatan ini kesadaran penyandang DM untuk tetap melakukan pemeriksaan kadar gula darah, meminum obat, mengatur pola makan dan olahraga dapat meningkat dengan tetap memperhatikan protocol kesehatan yang telah ditetapkan pemerintah.
Sensory neuropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus and its correlation with duration of diseaseBackground: Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) that results in harm to the nervous system. It is a progressive disease, and symptoms get worse over time.Purpose: To exploration the sensory neuropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus and its correlation with duration of disease.Method: An observational analytic with cross sectional design with population was patients with T2DM without diabetic ulcers in diabetic clinic Sari Mutiara Hospital. The number of samples was 86 respondents by a simple random sampling. Measuring the risk of diabetic peripheral neuropathy used 10 gram monofilament.Results: Showed the majority of the duration of T2DM >5 years (53,5%) and the majority of respondents had neuropathy (54,7%). The results of the Spearman rank correlation test showed that there was a significant correlation between duration of T2DM and risk of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (p-value = 0,023 and r= -0,438). Conclusion: The majority respondents has a diabetic peripheral neuropathy and also has a risk of diabetic peripheral neuropathy who are suffering >5 years. It is recommended that they need a regularly asses and educate to prevent further complication.Keywords: Sensory neuropathy; Type 2 diabetes mellitus; Duration of diseasePendahuluan: Neuropati perifer diabetes adalah komplikasi diabetes yang mengakibatkan kerusakan sistem saraf. Ini adalah penyakit progresif, dan gejalanya bertambah buruk seiring waktu.Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui hubungan lama menderita dengan risiko neuropati pada pasien DM tipe 2.Metode: Desain analitik korelasi dengan pendekatan cross sectional dan populasinya seluruh pasien DM tipe 2 yang tidak memiliki ulkus diabetik di klinik diabetes RSU Sari Mutiara. Sampelnya sebanyak 86 yang diambil dengan teknik simple random sampling. Risiko neuropati perifer diabetik diukur menggunakan monofilament 10 gram.Hasil: Analisis data menunjukkan mayoritas pasien menderita DM tipe 2 yang >5 tahun (53,5%) dan mayoritas pasien telah mengalami neuropati (54,7%). Hasil uji statistik menggunakan korelasi spearman menunjukan adanya hubungan lama menderita DM tipe 2 dengan risiko neuropati (p-value = 0,023<0,05 dan nilai r = -0,438).Simpulan: Mayoritas responden yang mengalami Neuropati perifer diabetes maupun resiko terjadinya Neuropati perifer diabetes pada mereka kelompok yang menderita DM tipe 2 yang >5 tahun. Sangat dianjurkan pada pasien tersebut untuk dilakukan pengkajian secara teratur dan pendidikan untuk mencegah komplikasi lebih lanjut.
<p>The role of the family as a caregiver of people living with HIV/AIDS can cause a lot of stress. The purpose of this study was to explore the family burden as a caregiver of people living with HIV/AIDS. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive phenomenology approach. This research was conducted at RSUP H. Adam Malik in Medan City. Participants in this study were 4 family members who care for family members infected with HIV who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Participants' inclusion criteria were ≥17 years of age who were able to speak Indonesian and were able to tell about the burdens experienced while caring for people living with HIV/AIDS. The themes found included psychological burdens, social burdens, family problems, and role conflicts. The research conclusions illustrate that families who are caregivers in carrying out their roles are not easy because they cause psychological burdens, social burdens, economic burdens, family problems, and role conflicts. Nurses can provide nursing interventions to increase caregiver coping to reduce the burden they experience.</p>
