Recognizing and nurturing all the varieties of human intelligences is essential for exploring the talents of students and enabling their identification of multiple intelligences. Studies have suggested that eliciting the maximum potential of intelligences leads to students' success in their academic and future careers. The literature has shown that incorporating active learning into the teaching and learning of moral education to develop multiple intelligences is limited. Accordingly, this study aims to discover the various intelligences that exist among moral education students through the active learning method. Active learning implies that all learners are provided with time and assistance to realize their potential. In this regard, multiple intelligence theory is used as the theoretical framework for defining, understanding, developing, and estimating the various intelligences that students have. The research design for this study is the qualitative method. A total of fourteen students from two schools were chosen as research participants. Data were collected through observation, focus group interviews, and journal entries. These findings reveal that using the active learning method in moral education can develop students’verbal linguistic intelligence, logical–mathematical intelligence, musical intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily kinesthetic intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, and naturalistic intelligence. Integration and internalization of the eight intelligences into active learning holistically will shape the personality and character of students in social life.
The present study aimed to identify and formulate Ibnu Miskawaih's and Imam Al-Ghazali's idea of character strength and virtue. To this end, a qualitative literature review was applied. The literature included books and journals related to character strength and virtue formulated by positive psychology The data were analyzed in descriptive-reflective-instrospective ways within Islamic psychology perspective. It was found that in terms of number and composition of character strengths and values of virtues, there was a significant difference between positive psychology and Islamic education psychology. There was a slight difference between character strength in positive psychology and that in Islamic education psychology in the form of the presence of middle way. This middle way, as sharia' stipulates, aims to provide a balance in all nature and quality of virtue. The finding of the study contribute to the field of guidance and counseling by proposing the reinforcement of character strength and virtue in this globalization era.
This study aimed to present a practical framework for designing values teaching program in youth education system. The choice of content, the nature of the students with respect to learning and their perception about the selected content for teaching values were studied. The study follows a Needs analysis design which drew upon document analysis and questionnaire. There were 104 respondents consisting of students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) coming from different background and nationalities. Although qualitative paradigm was adopted, quantitative strategy was also used in order to gather views from a large sample size. Document analysis and questionnaire survey were used for data collection. The finding reveals that majority of respondents have strong interest in the selected content and exhibit most of Generation Y characteristics with respect to learning. Although they are technology addicts, they unexpectedly show a different approach to values learning; they preferred personal contact with teachers rather than online-based mode. Inferring from results, the authors recommend the content and method of teaching values in Universiti Brunei Darussalam and the need for further research on the effect of cultural and religious background on the adoption of global culture by students.
The purpose of the study was to identify the sociodemographic variables and social value correlates and predictors of employer–employee relationship problems in a random sample of 860 Brunei public and private sector workers of both genders. A quantitative field survey design was used and data were analyzed by correlation and logistic regression. The rationale and justification for using this approach is explained. The main sociodemographic correlates and predictors of employer–employee relationship problems in this study were educational level and the district in which the employee resided and worked. Other correlates, but not necessarily predictors, of employer–employee relationship problems were seeking help from the Bomo (traditional healer); obtaining help from online social networking; and workers with children in the family. The two best and most significant social value correlates and predictors of employer–employee relationship problems included interpersonal communications; and self-regulation and self-direction. Low scorers on the following variables were also associated with high likelihood for possessing employer–employee relationship problems: satisfaction with work achievements; and peace and security, while low scorers on work stress had lower odds of having employer–employee relationship problems. Other significant social value correlates, but not predictors of employer–employee relationship problems were self-presentation; interpersonal trust; peace and security; and general anxiety. Consistent with findings of relevant previous studies conducted elsewhere, there were the variables that correlated with and predicted employer–employee relationship problems in Brunei public and private sector workers. Having identified these, the next step, efforts and priority should be directed at addressing the presenting issues via counseling and psychotherapy with affected employees. Further research is recommended to understand better the problem and its possible solutions.
