Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of identity strength and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) on good university governance and its impact on performance of religious ideology-based universities. Design/methodology/approach The design of this study was an explanatory design. This study had a deductive theoretical direction; therefore, the core method was quantitative. The “import” strategy served as a complement to the main method. With the time horizon, the selection of research objects in religious ideology-based universities managed by foundations, where the funds management of universities are sourced from the people, is based on the consideration that at present, the identity strength that is inherent in a higher education is funded by the people, as well as OCB is reflected in the behavior of people in the organization so that it has an impact on good university governance and performance, as described in the background at the beginning of this paper. Findings The successful the OCB is, the successful the good university governance and performance will be. The successful the good university governance is, the successful the university performance will be. In the mediation effect testing, it was found that good university governance had a significant mediation effect on relationship between OCB and university performance. It shows that good university governance strengthens the relationship between OCB and university performance. Originality/value Originality in this study is testing the mediating effect of good university governance that collaborates with OCB and performance variables, which are carried out at religious ideology-based universities in Indonesia that have different characteristics from universities in other regions. Originality in this study is as follows: good university governance and performance have been studied in a lot of previous research, but in this study, the focus of research is on religious ideology-based higher educations, where it is known that religious ideology-based universities are full with ideological values that become brands, if ideological identity used as one of the formers of good university governance and performance, it is expected that the accountability and performance of higher education will be better.
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the case studies of communities’ understandings of natural disasters in Aceh Province, Indonesia, where a number of cultures and traditions which belong to the ancestral heritage continue to be used in a more modern context. Design/methodology/approach This research used a qualitative descriptive research paradigm in which the researcher attempted to describe or construct in-depth interview results for the research objects. The interviews were conducted in six disaster-prone areas in Aceh, i.e. Simeulue, Central Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Pidie Jaya, North Aceh and dan Pidie. The interviewees were the informants in this research, which included traditional leaders, religious leaders, community leaders, headmen, youth figures and disaster victims. The technique for determining informants was through purposive sampling in which the sample is specified based on the need of the research. Findings Majority of the people in Aceh, especially those who live in earthquake- and tsunami-prone areas still practice this form of knowledge, as they have already realized that it makes a significant contribution to emergency management. They typically used their traditional knowledge to understand both the nature of local hazards and the risk reduction mechanism related to response mechanisms. In some events, they also used it as an alternative to recovery phase according to past information and experiences. This paper will discuss the contribution of traditional knowledge to emergency management by presenting some specific cases of indigenous stories in Aceh. The stories not only served as an early warning system but also can be used to develop more effective disaster risk reduction programmes to improve community awareness to deal with future threats. Originality/value On Simeulue Island, most of the indigenous people already possess the knowledge and value systems inherited through the generations, as a form of local wisdom “called smong” when encountering earthquakes and tsunamis. Beside smong, there is still considerable amount of other similar indigenous knowledge that originated amid traditional people, especially in rural areas, in Aceh. Thus, this paper attempts to identify the knowledge and its representation in the implementation of disaster mitigation efforts in Aceh.
Purpose This paper aims to determine the performance of the departments at Dr Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital, Banda Aceh, Indonesia, in 2016, based on the targets and realization of their work programs using balanced scorecard. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted qualitative and quantitative approaches. Findings The overall results of the performance appraisal using the balanced scorecard approach seen from the financial, internal business, customer and training and learning perspectives are good. Dr Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital has provided good services, and performance of its departments have generated the expected outcome, realized by the Hospital. Originality/value The novelty of the present study lies in its research model, where human resources (transformational leadership, organizational commitment and resource uniqueness) and financial management (business plans, budget and performance).
Dunia Barusa, Inc. is a business institution engaged in Toyota car sales services, spare parts and periodic service. Service quality is an important factor in determining the success of this business. Services provided by Dunia Barusa, Inc., includes a comfortable waiting room with prayer rooms and toilets, responsiveness of service complaints, friendly and professional attention of employees, providing a complete and comprehensive service, using equipment and that is in accordance with standards, selling authentic Toyota spare parts and coupled with various promotional gifts for periodic service and purchase of spare parts. The steps of data collection are done by observing and distributing questionnaires from several criteria. The criteria were obtained through interviews and literature studies. The method used to measure service quality using Fuzzy Servqual. From the results of the calculation of customer expectations Defuzzyfikation can be known, the value of the highest expectations of customers to improve service quality at Dunia Barusa Inc. is in attribute X8, which is the timeliness of service provided with a value of 2.80 and the lowest value is attribute X12, which is the greeting given on arrival with a value of 1.97. The criteria that have the highest gap value are timeliness of the service provided. Accordingly, this criteria is a criteria that many customers complain and needs to have an improvement.
