This article traces to analyze the impact of global financial crisis to Indonesian banking condition, a comparison between shari'ah and conventional bank. It starts with description about the root of financial crisis and its impact to Indonesian financial sector. Both shari'ah and conventional bank face the effects of the crisis and react to Bank Indonesia policy. As Bank Indonesia raises BI rate, conventional bank increases its interest as response to policy which mean businessmen have to pay higher for money they borrow from bank. Such a condition makes businessmen move to shari'ah bank in which its profit and losing share financing system make them pay the same amount as they borrow. The article concludes that sharia banking is stronger than conventional bank in facing financial crisis.
This study aims to examine the effect of perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEU), trust (TR), subjective norm (SN), and attitude (AT) on customer's Intention to Adopt Internet Banking (IAIB) at Islamic banks and conventional banks before and during the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The research model is based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). This study involves 213 respondents for Islamic banks and 410 respondents for conventional banks from 25 provinces in Indonesia. Data was analyzed using partial least square (PLS) regression with the Structural Equation Model (SEM) method. The result of data analysis confirms several hypotheses taken from the literature. The results before the Covid-19 pandemic showed that AT and SN influence IAIB in Islamic banks. Whereas in conventional banks, AT, PU, SN, and TR influence IAIB. While during the Covid-19 pandemic, it shows that the AT, PU, IB, SN, and customer TR influence IAIB in Islamic banks and conventional banks. From the analysis, it was found that the PEU variable did not have a significant effect on the intention of customers of Islamic banks and conventional banks to use Internet banking.
Abstract:This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting the amount of profitability (ROA) provided by Islamic banking in Indonesia. The data which is used is taken from the financial report of the Shari'a Bank during the 2011-2016 periods by using montly financial statement This study uses a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to see the long-term effect and response to shock that occur in the studied variables. The result shows that in the long run, the percentage Financing (FIN) and BOPO give a positive siqnifikant effect on the ROA, while third party funds (DPK), percentage profit and loss sharing (TBH), financial to deposit ratio (FDR) has negative and siqnificant effect on the ROA. Sertifikat Bank Indonesia Syariah (SBIS) and non performing finance (NPF) have no significant effect on the ROA. In short run, ROA give a negatif and siqnificant effect on the ROA and FDR give a positif and siqnificant effect, while DPK, FIN, SBIS, TBH, NPF and BOPO have no sinificant effect on the ROA. Therfore, shocks that occur in the ROA, FIN, FDR , NPF dan BOPO positively responded by ROA and will be stable in the long term. While the shocks that occur in the percentage of FDR, SBIS and TBH responded negatively by financing and will be stable in the long term. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi profitabilitas (ROA) perbankan syariah di Indonesia. Data yang digunakan data bulanan dari laporan keuangan bank syariah periode 2010-2015. Penelitian ini mengunakan Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) untuk melihat dampak jangka panjang dan respon terhadap dampak shock pada setiap variabel terhadap pembiayaan. Hasil olah data menunjukkan bahwa FIN dan BOPO berhubungan positif terhadap ROA, sedangkan DPK, TBH, FDR berhubungan negatif terhadap dan ROA SBIS dan NPF tidak berpengaruh terhadap tingkat ROA. Dalam jangka pendek, ROA berhubungan negatif, tetapi FDR terhadap ROA berhubungan positif. Sedangkan DPK, FIN, SBIS, TBH, NPF and BOPO tidak berhubungan dengan pembiayaan. Di lain pihak, respon pembiayan terhadap goncangan yang terjadi terjadi pada ROA, FIN, FDR, NPF dan BOPO direspon positif oleh ROA. Sedangkan respon ROA terhadap goncangan yang terjadi pada FDR, SBIS dan TBH adalah negatif.
Purpose The purpose of this study is to identify and explore the role of Islamic financing in supporting development of halal industry in Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach This research is divided into two studies. The first study uses survey-based quantitative method and the second study uses focus group discussion (FGD) method. Using a purposive and proportional sampling technique in the first study, this research collected 1,985 samples of Islamic financial products of business owners (demand-side) from all parts of Indonesia. The data were analyzed using the partial least square structural equation modeling approach. The authors also conducted FGDs, involving 35 participants from government, financial, social and education institutions (supply-side) as well as business owners (demand-side) in three separated times. Findings In the first study, it can be identified that literacy on Islamic finance, attitude and awareness strongly affect business owners’ intention to use Islamic financial products. It is also found that subjective norm significantly influences literacy, attitude and awareness. Interestingly, religiosity does not significantly affect attitude toward Islamic financial products. According to the FGD in the second study, this research generates several factors motivating business owners’ preference to choose conventional rather than Islamic financial products, including expensive pricing, less developed technology, bad service quality and the halal status of the products. The reason for insignificant results of religiosity on attitude in the first study is explained in the second study. Most users are utilitarians who mainly perceived the products based on the sought benefits provided by the products. Practical implications This research offers the government a road map showing the strategy to build Islamic financial ecosystem in Indonesia. The road map integrates supply-side, which includes government, financial industries, social and education institutions and scientific organizations, and demand-side, which includes business owners or entrepreneur associations. Originality/value This research provides a wide range of samples derived from business owners’ respondents of halal industry in all representative islands in Indonesia. Therefore, it gives more holistic and representative findings. In addition, the analysis in this research covers not only the demand-side but also the supply-side perspective. Lastly, this research provides an Islamic financial ecosystem model that integrates all stakeholders to improve halal industry performance as a whole.
