A morphology-based phylogenetic analysis of all known species (excluding the well-revised Zopherus Gray) of the tribe Zopherini was performed. The genus Sesaspis Casey is elevated from synonymy, redescribed and two new species are described from Central America, Sesaspis ashei NEW SPECIES and Sesaspis triplehorni NEW SPECIES. The following NEW COMBINATIONS are proposed: Noserinus furcatus (Kirsch), Phloeodes venustus (Champion), Sesaspis emarginata (Horn), Sesaspis lutosa (Champion), Sesaspis sylvatica (García-París et al.), and Sesaspis doyeni (García-París et al.). The following NEW SYNONYMIES are proposed: Phloeodes pustulosus LeConte of Phloeodes diabolicus LeConte, Nosoderma prominens Casey, Nosoderma senex Casey, Nosoderma brevicollis Casey, and Nosoderma subglabrus Casey of Eurychora inaequale Say as Verodes inaequalis (Say), Nosoderma insigne Champion of Nosoderma interruptum Champion as Verodes interruptus (Champion), Noserodes squalidus Casey of Nosoderma guatemalense Champion as Verodes guatemalensis (Champion), Scoriaderma congolense Fairmaire of Nosoderma scabrosum Solier as Verodes scabrosus (Solier), and Scoriaderma comoriense Fairmaire of S. cordicolle Waterhouse. A revised key to the world genera is provided, as well as keys to all species of the tribe, save those of Zopherus, including the multispecies genera Noserinus Casey, Nosoderma Guérin-Méneville, Phloeodes LeConte, Sesaspis Casey, and Verodes Casey. A synoptic catalog of the described species is provided, with brief comments on the taxonomic histories of the tribe, genera, and species. All recognized species are illustrated and diagnosed, with information on their types, taxonomic history and geographic distributions.

A brief review of the classification history of the subfamily Colydiinae is provided, followed by a provisional diagnosis for the group. The 47 genera of New World Colydiinae (Colydiidae auctorum) are reviewed, with an illustrated key to genera, a representative habitus of each genus, a list of all 305 described species currently considered valid, each placed into the appropriate recognized genus, with full citations for each. Numerous nomenclatural changes are noted. Opostirus Kirsch is transferred to the Tenebrionidae: Eudysantina, new placement.

Invasive slugs and snails are among the most damaging pests of agriculture in temperate and tropical regions of the world. Control options, however, are limited and there is a heavy reliance on chemical molluscicides of variable efficacy. There is an ongoing need to improve management methods. Here, we show that a simple fermenting bread dough formulation (flour, water, and yeast) was effective in attracting pest mollusk species in laboratory tests, and in multiple replicated field trials in Hawaii, Oregon, and Montana. The dough attracted substantially more terrestrial pest gastropods, including invasive species of major economic importance such as Cornu aspersum, Deroceras reticulatum, Ambigolimax valentianus, Xerolenta obvia, Lissachatina fulica, and Parmarion martensi, than water controls. The dough remained attractive for at least 8 days and was significantly more attractive than a widely used metaldehyde-based bait, Deadline® M-Ps™. Thus, fermenting bread dough represents a nontoxic, generic, and effective tool to aid in managing pest gastropod infestations, either using baited traps or in attract-and-kill approaches. Given its simplicity, low cost, and the ready availability of its ingredients, the dough also has potential to be used in developing countries where access to commercial molluscicide baits is limited by cost.

The world species of Phellopsis LeConte are revised based on the examination of all available material. Phellopsis obcordata (Kirby) and P. porcata (LeConte) are found to be valid vicariant species isolated in old growth boreal forest habitats of eastern and western North America, respectively. Phellopsis robustula Casey and P. montana Casey are placed as junior synonyms of P. porcata NEW SYNONYMIES. On the Asian continent, P. imurai Masumoto is placed in synonymy with P. amurensis (Heyden) NEW SYNONYMY. Phellopsis amurensis (Heyden) now has a documented range that extends from the coastal mountains of Russia’s Primorskii Krai into the Korean peninsula. The other two described species found to be valid are P. suberea Lewis, known only from Japan, and P. chinense (Semenow) from west central China. Phellopsis yulongensis NEW SPECIES is described from the Yunnan Province of western China. Redescriptions of all valid species are provided, with comments on the history of the genus, biology and biogeography of the group. A key and illustrations are provided for the identification of all known Phellopsis species.
