The modern language of young people is characterized by expressiveness and special coloring, widely represented by slang, which is the most expressive form of vocabulary in linguistics. That is why the question of using slangisms of modern society is quite relevant. The purpose of this research work is to study the term slang, determine its place in the system of Ukrainian and English language lexicon, study the nuances of the formation and functioning of slang, as well as determine the peculiarities of translation of English youth slang into Ukrainian language. To study the issue of Ukrainian and English slang vocabulary through the prism of translation aspect, the method of theoretical analysis, linguistic analysis, transformational analysis, as well as the descriptive method of research were used. Using the method of theoretical analysis, the basic theoretical concepts, in particular slang, were studied, and the scientific literature devoted to the topic of research was analyzed. Using the research’s linguistic analysis method, the pragmatic aspect of Ukrainian and English slang was studied. The transformational analysis method helped study the use of translation transformations in the translation of English slangisms. Using the descriptive method, the peculiarities of slang usage in Ukrainian and English were depicted. As a result of the scientific research, the tendencies in the development of modern slang vocabulary of Ukrainian and English languages were studied and analyzed, as well as the changes in the potential in the translation aspect of slangisms, which is the prospect of further scientific research in this direction.
The article deals with the peculiarities of transformations in the process of translation of English prose into Ukrainian. Despite the large number of works covering this issue, the problem of translating prose texts is not dismissed. There is a need to systematize and study the types of lexical and grammatical transformations, used in translating literary texts, in practice. To observe the process of formation of inter-language transformations, the novel by an Irish writer Colm Toibin ‘House of Names’ has been chosen. The various scientists’ approaches to establishing the transformation types are analyzed. It is revealed that due to differences in the syntactic, grammatical and morphological structures of the English and Ukrainian languages, lexical and grammatical transformations are widely used in translation. Lexical transformations are the deviations from direct vocabulary matches. The lexical transformations are mainly caused by the fact that the volume of the lexical units of the original language and the language of translation do not coincide. Among lexical transformations, the most common are generalization, concretization, compensation, lexical additions. Grammatical transformations are to transform the structure of a sentence in the translation process according to the rules of the source language. The transformation can be complete or partial depending on whether the structure of the sentence changes completely or partially. The article presents the examples of the grammatical transformations of inversion, replacement, addition and omission comparing the original text and its translation.
The article deals with the research of lexical transformations in the translation of Tony Morrison's novel "Song of Solomon". The main types of lexical transformations used in the translation from English to Ukrainian were highlighted. Also, it was proposed to define the term "translation transformations" based on the analysis of the views of various scholars on this issue. Three concepts are mentioned, according to which the term transformation is fixed. The multifaceted nature of the covered issue made it possible to give reasons for the use of lexical and semantic transformations and why transformations are useful for translators. The analysis was performed on the basis of a classification developed by J. Retsker. According to the famous researcher, there are seven types of transformations: concretization, differentiation, generalization, semantic development, antonymous translation, integral transformation and compensation of losses in the process of translation. Each of the types is analysed and examples of transformations in the process of translation of the work of art are presented.
