The natural occurrence of uranium enriched in U234 has been noted in both Russia and North America [Thurber, 1962]. The same phenomenon was reported by one of the present authors in the course of a recent study of the natural α radioactivity of English drinking waters [Hill, 1962]. This observation was made on the basis of the relative areas of the 4.18‐ and 4.76‐Mev peaks in the α particle energy spectrum of an untreated water residue. The absence of interference from Ra226 in the 4.76‐Mev peak was inferred from the absence from the spectrum of α peaks due to Ra226 daughters.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
