Recent studies have investigated demand feeders to determine optimal fish self-selection of feed based on feed nutrients (Fortes-Silva et al., 2017) and to improve the activity of digestive enzymes through self-feeding (Reis et al., 2019). However, only a few studies have compared the growth rates of fish fed using demand feeders and other feeding systems.Demand feeders are expected to show improved growth in fish and decrease feed loss; however, several issues hinder fish growth.For example, fish show social status and dominance hierarchies that disrupt the growth of individual fish.
