Background: There is growing concern about individuals reported to suffer repeat COVID-19 disease episodes, these in a small number of cases characterised as de novo infections with distinct sequences, indicative of insufficient protective immunity even in the short term. Methods: Observational case series and case-control studies reporting 33 cases of recurrent, symptomatic, qRT-PCR positive COVID-19. Recurrent disease was defined as symptomatic recurrence after symptom-free clinical recovery, with release from isolation > 14 days from the beginning of symptoms confirmed by qRT-PCR. The case control study-design compared this group of patients with a control group of 62 patients randomly selected from the same COVID-19 database. Results: Of 33 recurrent COVID-19 patients, 26 were female and 30 were HCW. Mean time to recurrence was 50.5 days which was associated with being a HCW (OR 36.4 (p < 0.0 0 01)), and blood type A (OR 4.8 (p = 0.002)). SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were signifcantly lower in recurrent patients after initial COVID-19 (2.4 ± 0.610; p < 0.0 0 01) and after recurrence (6.4 ± 11.34; p = 0.007). Virus genome sequencing identified reinfection by a different isolate in one patient. Conclusions: This is the first detailed case series showing COVID-19 recurrence with qRT-PCR positivity. For one individual detection of phylogenetically distinct genomic sequences in the first and second episodes confirmed bona fide renfection, but in most cases the data do not formally distinguish between reinfection and re-emergence of a chronic infection reservoir. These episodes were significantly associated with reduced Ab response during initial disease and argue the need for ongoing vigilance without an assumption of protection after a first episode.
Objective: To compare the clinical outcomes of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 variants with patients infected with the original strain. Methods: This is a case control study comparing cases of COVID-19 patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern identified by genomic sequencing, with a control group of 62 patients randomly selected from a COVID-19 database of patients diagnosed prior to the emergence of these variants. Findings: In the 40 patients infected with variants, the predominant (52.5%) was P.1 variant. The variant group presented more arthralgia (p=0.015), hyporexia (p=0.006), nausea/vomiting (p=0.048), and mental confusion (p=0.029), the last not identified in the control group. There were no significant differences in comorbidities or demographic data between the groups. Severe disease, according to the WHO Clinical Progression Scale, was identified only in those infected with the variants, as well as high-flow oxygen therapy and ICU admission (p=0.05). The two deaths reported in the study were in patients infected with the variants. Conclusions: The worst outcomes were observed in the group infected with SARS-CoV-2 variants, although no significant differences in comorbidities or demographics date were observed between the groups.
A prototipagem virtual tem revolucionado o Processo de Desenvolvimento de Produtos, possibilitando a produção de peças físicas complexas e detalhadas através de modelos virtuais, obtendo grandes vantagens principalmente na redução do tempo e inovação. No meio acadêmico estes softwares de modelagem virtual aparecem de forma lenta devido à falta de infraestrutura, resultando em alunos com conhecimento defasado. As novas técnicas de prototipagem, assim como as convencionais, são importantes para o desenvolvimento dos profissionais das áreas relacionadas à inovação e desenvolvimento de novos produtos. Portanto, o intuito do presente trabalho é desenvolver um material que sirva de referência para profissionais e estudantes da área. Para tanto, foi realizado um levantamento dos métodos e materiais convencionais e contemporâneos de modelagem e prototipagem do curso de Design da FAAC -UNESP, campus de Bauru. Através de consultas a materiais bibliográficos disponíveis, professores e técnicos atuantes no setor, foi realizada uma coleta documental com fotos de equipamentos, processos e dados sobre os métodos e materiais utilizados para modelagem e prototipagem, obtendo um panorama da atual infraestrutura dos laboratórios, das técnicas e tecnologias utilizadas no curso e suas respectivas particularidades. Por se tratar de uma pesquisa focada no design de produtos, foram abordados apenas os laboratórios ligados ao desenvolvimento de modelos e protótipos sendo eles: Laboratório Didático de Materiais e Protótipos (LDMP), do Centro Avançado de Desenvolvimento de Produto (CADEP), o Laboratório de Processamento de Madeira e Bambu (LPMB) e do Laboratório de Ergonomia e Interfaces (LEI). Os resultados desta coleta documental foram organizados em tópicos cuja disposição segue uma ordem cronológica a partir da fundação do curso de Design da referida universidade, a criação dos laboratórios e finalizando com a descrição das metodologias e técnicas de prototipagem utilizadas. palavras-chave:Prototipagem rápida; impressão 3D; Design; Unesp; Bauru
