Rev.int.med.cienc.act.fís.deporte -vol. 18 -número 69 -ISSN: 1577-0354

ABSTRACTThe Basic Psychological Needs in Physical Education scale (BPN-PE), a modified version of the successful and widely used Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise scale (BPNES), was designed to provide a specific tool to assess these needs in physical education settings. The goal of this study was to validate this scale for the Spanish context of secondary education. 624 students participated (332 men and 292 women) from eight different schools (age range 12-19 years). The confirmatory factor analysis supported the three-factor structure of the Spanish version of the BPN-PE. Psychometric properties of the scale revealed adequate internal consistency. Correlations among the Spanish version and the Questionnaire of Personal and Social Responsibility and the subscale of Intrinsic Motivation of the Perceived Locus of Causality Scale showed satisfactory concurrent validity. The Spanish version of the BPN-EF is a simple, valid and reliable instrument for Spanish physical education contexts.
School violence is a reality with a strong impact on the educational context. The number of studies conducted on this topic has grown significantly in the last few years. Student's important role in class plays a fundamental role to understand motivational processes in physical education. However, there is a lack of studies on the connections between these two variables. Thus, the aims of this research project were two: to assess the predictive role of students' important role in physical education on their attitudes towards violence, and to determine differences based on genre between students' attitudes towards violence and their important role. A total of 917 students (457 females and 460 males) ages 12 to 18, from eleven secondary schools (42 intact classes) of northern Spain agreed to participate in the study. Participants completed the Questionnaire of Attitudes Towards Violence and the subscale Important Role of the Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire adapted
Abstract. The goal of the present study was to assess social responsibility, basic psychological needs, and motivation towards friendship-approach goals within the Self-Determination Theory. A total of 404 students from three secondary schools of northern Spain (209 females and 193 males; M = 14.20; DT = 1.52), aged from 12 to 18 years, completed a questionnaire that included the social responsibility subscale of the Personal and Social Responsibility Questionnaire (PSQR), the Basic Psychological Needs in Physical Education Scale (BPN-PE), the subscale of intrinsic motivation of the Perceived Locus of Causality (PLOC), and the subscale of friendship-approach of the Friendship Goals Questionnaire in Physical Education (FGQ-PE). Results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that social responsibility, relatedness and autonomy, and intrinsic motivation significantly predicted friendship-approach goals. These results suggest the importance of creating educational contexts that can foster social responsibility, relatedness, autonomy, as well as students’ intrinsic motivation, with the aim to improve their friendship goals.
