SUMMARY
Diabetic nephropathy is one of the most frequent causes of renal failure. Diabetes increases the cardiovascular risk by 2–4 times that of the general population; hypertension increases this risk. Diabetes is a factor that shortens the survival of renal patients. Appropriate hospital care and attention can diminish complications in these patients and improve quality of life.
