The paper is devoted to highlighting the potential application of the quantitative imaging technique through results associated with work hardening, strain rate and heat generated during elastic and plastic deformation. The aim of the research presented in this article is to determine the relationship between deformation in the uniaxial tensile test of samples made of 1-mm-thick nickel-based superalloys and their change in temperature during deformation. The relationship between yield stress and the Taylor–Quinney coefficient and their change with the strain rate were determined. The research material was 1-mm-thick sheets of three grades of Inconel alloys: 625 HX and 718. The Aramis (GOM GmbH, a company of the ZEISS Group) measurement system and high-sensitivity infrared thermal imaging camera were used for the tests. The uniaxial tensile tests were carried out at three different strain rates. A clear tendency to increase the sample temperature with an increase in the strain rate was observed. This conclusion applies to all materials and directions of sample cutting investigated with respect to the sheet-rolling direction. An almost linear correlation was found between the percent strain and the value of the maximum surface temperature of the specimens. The method used is helpful in assessing the extent of homogeneity of the strain and the material effort during its deformation based on the measurement of the surface temperature.
The article presents a properly planned and designed tests of the abrasive wear resistance 2024 aluminum alloy strips under friction conditions involving various lubricants. Test were focused on the selection of the best lubricant for use in industrial environment, especially for sheet metal forming. Three lubricants of the Orlen Oil Company and one used in the sheet metal forming industry, were selected for tests. Tests without the use of lubricant were performed for a comparison. The tester T-05 was used for testing resistance to wear. As the counter samples were used tool steel - NC6 and steel for hot working - WCL, which are typical materials used for tools for pressing. The results are presented in the form of the force friction, abrasion depth, weight loss and coefficient of friction depending on the lubricant used and the type of counter samples. The results allowed for predicting set lubricant-material for tools which can be applied to sheet metal made of aluminum alloy 2024.
The aim of the research described in this paper is to analyse the synergistic effect of types of synthetic oil and their density on the value of the coefficient of friction (COF) of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy sheets. Lubrication performance of commercial synthetic oils (machine, gear, engine and hydraulic) was tested in a strip draw friction test. The friction tests consisted of pulling a strip specimen between two cylindrical fixed countersamples. The countersamples were placed in the simulator base mounted on a uniaxial tensile test machine. Due to the complex synergistic effect of different strip drawing test parameters on the COF, artificial neural networks were used to find this relationship. In the case of both dry and lubricated conditions, a clear trend was found of a reduction of the coefficient of friction with nominal pressure. Engine oil 10W-40 was found to be the least favourable lubricant in reducing the coefficient of friction of Grade 5 titanium sheets. The two main tribological mechanisms, i.e., galling and ploughing, played the most important role in the friction process on the test sheets. In the range of nominal pressures considered, and with the synthetic oils tested, the most favourable lubrication conditions can be obtained by using a type of oil with a low viscosity index and a high kinematic viscosity.
This article presents a study on the effect of strain rate, specimen orientation, and plastic strain on the value and distribution of the temperature of dog-bone 1 mm-thick specimens during their deformation in uniaxial tensile tests. Full-field image correlation and infrared thermography techniques were used. A titanium-stabilised austenitic 321 stainless steel was used as test materials. The dog-bone specimens used for uniaxial tensile tests were cut along the sheet metal rolling direction and three strain rates were considered: 4 × 10−3 s−1, 8 × 10−3 s−1 and 16 × 10−3 s−1. It was found that increasing the strain rate resulted in the intensification of heat generation. High-quality regression models (Ra > 0.9) developed for the austenitic 321 steel revealed that sample orientation does not play a significant role in the heat generation when the sample is plastically deformed. It was found that at the moment of formation of a necking at the highest strain rate, the maximum sample temperature increased more than four times compared to the initial temperature. A synergistic effect of the strain hardening exponent and yield stress revealed that heat is generated more rapidly towards small values of strain hardening exponent and yield stress.
The aim of this paper is manufacturing of turbocharger engine jet blades made of nickel superalloys. Processes for producing molds and casting realized in a production line are special processes. It means that the results are known only after inspection of the finished product. There is lack of the methods and techniques of effective and efficient quality control of the work in stock, above all molds. Therefore, the unknown is the state ceramic mold for the precision casting, which resulting in risk of referral to a defective mold of the casting process and thus give the product does not comply, is eliminated in the final inspection. One method of reducing this risk is particularly thorough monitoring of all parameters of each process and keeping them in the desired operating point. Operating point is a set of parameters of processes. Such monitoring is possible with the commitment to the methods and techniques to automatically, without human intervention, data collection and processing methods appropriate for use in operational control. The paper presents results of research on the attitude to the problem of a special process. This change is the introduction to the process efficient and effective form of quality control tools in the course of its preparation. In this case, the method of photogrammetry, thermal imaging and computed tomography were used. With the infrared camera will be possible to determine the temperature field, the disorder in relation to the pattern indicates the type of defect. Computed tomography and will be used to develop patterns of correlated defects associated with thermal imagers. Photogrammetry is the use of a model set of quality control (comparison of the actual state of the model *.CAD). It also allows the designation of a wall thickness of the mold. Keywords: special process, investment casting, turbine blades, 3D scan, thermovision, computed tomographyReferat dotyczy procesu wytwarzania łopatek turbosprężarek silników odrzutowych wykonanych z nadstopów niklu.
