Background and objective: Leukemia is one of the fatal diseases and their morbidity and mortality rates increases day by day all over the world. This piece of research study was designed in order to find out the prevalence of different types of leukemia in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan during January 2015 to December 2016. Material and Method: The retrospective research study was carried out at Institute of Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine (IRNUM) Peshawar. A data of 400 admitted patients of leukemia were evaluated. Result: It was observed that acute leukemia (80%) was more prevalent than chronic leukemia (20%). Amongst types of leukemia, Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) 49.5% (n=198) was more prevalent than Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) 31.25% (n=125), Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) 10% (n=40) and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) 9.25% (n=37) was less prevalent in this study. It was also found that leukemia was more prevalent in male patients 64.5% (n=258) as compared to females 35.5% (n=142) and male to female ratio was 1.8:1. Most of the patients were under the age of 20 years. Conclusion: Acute leukemia was more prevalent than chronic leukemia during this study in this part of the country and needs to be address. Introduction: The epidemiology of orthopedic and traumatic disorders is as important as that of communicable diseases andas that of surgical audit. Some sort of surveillance system is essential for this purpose. Design: A retrospective study. Period: Jan 2001 to June2006: Setting: Orthopedic unit at THQ Hospital Tangi. Results: The population of adults and children less than 16 years in the populationstudied is 57% versus 43%, while the fracture rates were 40% and 60% respectively. In children under 16 years fractures of the radius and ulnawere the most common followed by fractures of the distal end of the humerus i.e. 45.93% and 33.40% respectively in the upper limb injuries.Discussion: Comprehensive data regarding orthopedic disorders are few5. Studies of specific injuries and specific age related disorders areeven more limited. Fractures rates vary across a country and similarly it is variable in different seasons13.
As the world advances, living standards are getting changed with inclination more toward sedentary life style and junk food, we are seeing a worldwide increased incidence of coronary artery disease. A 73 year of age gentleman with progressive shortness of breath NYHA-II/III since last 6 months and epigastric discomfort with effort angina CCS-III. Was having no other co-morbidities, except of 35 pack years of smoking. On evaluation his Coro-angiogram revealed Diffuses TVCAD with Lad diffusely diseased throughout its middle course >90%, LCX 80%, RCA mid-Course critical discrete lesion of 90%. His 2D, TTE showed normal valvular apparatus and ejection fraction of 55%. Literature review further furnishes the fact that LAD is most commonly being affected by atheroma formation hence making it the most common site for endartrectomy, though peri-operative MI is still a grave concern, but half dose protamine slow reversal of the heparin and keeping ACT at 150-160 sec greatly reduces the incidence of peri-operative MI.
The main purpose of the study was to investigate the Pre and Post 9/11 Era in Perspectives of the Impact of Terrorism on Sports at Secondary School Level in South Waziristan Agency. All the secondary schools and Agency Education office of SWA were the proposed place of the work. The researcher focused on the rural Secondary level Schools. The results show The relationship between pre 9/11 and post 9/11 era in perspective of impact of terrorism on sports at secondary school level was negative it was also concluded that Terrorism has negative impact upon sports activities conducted among the secondary schools after 9/11 era in South Waziristan Agency. The researcher recommended that Government may pay special attention to School Sports and give full proof security during sports Competitions.
Objectives: This study was designed to estimate the incidence rate of pulmonary metastasis at the time of diagnosis ofprimary osteosarcoma distal femur in a tertiary care hospital. Study Design: Descriptive case series. Setting and Duration: OrthopaedicSurgery Unit, Mardan Medical Complex Teaching hospital, Bacha Khan Medical College, Mardan, KPK, Pakistan from March 2011 toSeptember 2012. Methodology: Nine patients of primary osteosarcoma distal femur were assessed with CT chest for pulmonarymetastasis. The frequency and patterns of pulmonary metastasis on CT chest were documented. After the biopsy reports all patientswere referred for neo adjuvant chemotherapy before any definite surgical procedure. The histological types of osteosarcoma were noted.RESULTS: Nine patients including 7 male (77.7%) and 2 females (22.2%) with mean age 12.4 years were included in our study. 66.6 %(n=6, 5 males, 1 female) had pulmonary metastasis on CT chest at initial presentation while 33 %( n=3,2 males,1 female) had nopulmonary metastases on CT chest. Three (50%) patients had pulmonary metastasis in the right lung, 1(16.6%) had on left side while2(33.3%) had bilateral pulmonary involvement. Of the cases with metastases at diagnosis, 55.5% had osteoblastic histology ofosteosarcoma compared with 33.3% of those with non metastatic disease. Conclusions: Majority of osteosarcoma distal femurpresented with pulmonary metastasis at initial presentation. A high index of suspicion accompanied by careful examination of the limband appropriate radiographs at initial assessment may reduce the incidence of such delays in diagnosis and the associated risks.
