ResumoNas estimativas da variação da linha de costa ao longo dos anos, assim como para análise da sua tendência erosiva ou progradacional atual são frequentemente utilizadas fotografias aéreas e imagens de satélite, nas quais é comum o uso da linha de contato entre a areia seca e molhada da praia como indicador do nível da preamar média. No entanto, dependendo do referencial utilizado, o resultado pode levar à interpretações equivocadas, destacadamente no que concerne à perspectiva da mobilidade da praia ou apenas a sua variabilidade morfodinâmica.Palavras chave: Linha de costa; mobilidade; mapeamento
AbstractThe mapping of the dry and moist limit of the beach on aerial photos or satellite images as a proxy for the shoreline position in order to establish the mobility of the coast is a widely used technique. As the morphological variability of some beaches can be in the order of decameters without representing a trend of the coastline considering as such the contact of the backshore or beach berm with the back beach (foredune toe, erosion scarp or bluff), the result my, in some cases, not represent the real trend of the coast line, but only the beach morphodynamic variability.
Resumo:O artigo avalia a relação da morfodinâmica da praia do Lagomar, Macaé -RJ, com o clima de ondas regional e local do RJ, obtido através de resultados de simulações do modelo Wavewatch III, disponíveis para os anos de 1990-2009. Para tanto, foram avaliados três pontos de saídas de dados de ondas próximos à costa, sob diferentes graus de exposição, e seus resultados foram validados com dados medidos em campo por boia oceanográfi ca fundeada nas proximidades de Arraial do Cabo. Posteriormente, o comportamento das ondas foi relacionado com a morfologia da praia, a partir da análise de 41 perfi s topográfi cos analisados em multiescala temporal (1995)(1996)(1997)(1998)(1999)(2000)(2001)(2002)(2003)(2004). Os resultados apontaram boa correlação do modelo com dados reais de altura e período de ondas para a costa do RJ e boa correlação entre as variações de energia de onda e as variações de volume no perfi l da praia ao longo da escala temporal avaliada.

The Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in Brazil is a political-institutional process, manifested in the establishment of the National Coastal Management Plan (NCMP) and in the formulation and implementation of specific tools for territorial planning in the coastal zone, as well as other activities related to ICZM in Brazil. This work analyses some official documents related to the Brazilian NCMP and to the frequently used tools for performing ICZM in Brazil: Macrodiagnostic of Coastal Zone, Orla Project and Coastal Ecological and Economic Zoning. The analysis is based on legislative, ecological and socioeconomic indicators, found in the Handbook for Measuring the Progress and Outcomes of Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management, published in 2006 by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. The results indicate adequacy of NCMP and tools on the definition and delimitation of the coastal zone, as the institutional processes of coordination and cooperation within the ICZM and about the diagnostics and the territorial planning of the coastal zone. However, the Brazilian NCMP as the cited tools still need to fully meet the major global goal of the ICZM, as internationally defined by the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection (GESAMP), with respect to the improvement of the life quality of coastal populations who depends on the sea resources and with respect to the environmental conservation of the Brazilian coastal zone. With the wide dissemination of results, is expected to contribute to the improvement of NCMPs and ICZM tools maintained worldwide, since we emphasize the importance of including the international general objectives of the ICZM, as well as inclusion the dimensions of sustainability in the ICZM processes, so try to ensure economic growth, coupled with respect to coastal populations and environmental conservation in coastal areas.
