The credits for translation courses offered at the study program of English Language Teaching at a university level in Indonesia are very limited, which is not sufficient to teach and facilitate practices for all techniques of translation. Therefore, the students should only be taught techniques frequently used in translation from English to Indonesian. This research was to analyze translation techniques commonly used in translating from English to Indonesian. The data were collected from Colors magazine, an in-flight magazine for Garuda Indonesia. The magazine comes in two languages. The sentences were extracted, and translated sentences in Indonesian were compared to the original version in English. The research results showed that the most frequently used techniques in translating from English into Indonesian are amplification (23.36%), reduction (15.20%), transposition (12.32%), borrowing (12%), modulation (11.68%), and literal translation (10.08%). This study attempts to explore students reading behavior in online and offline media, and then analyze its impact on students content recall ability and comprehension. This research uses sequential mix method approach; involving sequential qualitative and quantitative research methods. First, surveys were conducted on some samples (N = 279) to explore students' reading behavior profile. Second, two groups of respondents were provided (each, N = 30). Group A is treated to read online, group B offline. Next, they were tested with a written test. The results of this study show that students have a dualistic tendency to choose reading media. Most of them pick and prioritize reading offline. However, on the other hand, they also like to read various online material. This choice is based on the reason that reading on online media has many options for reading materials, efficiency, convenience, low cost, and up-to-date. Interestingly, most students often get lost on searching for sources that not credible, such as Blogspot. Because, when looking for reading material, they only rely on big titles as the keyword. In terms of content recall ability and comprehension, reading material online proved to trigger a pattern of fast reading, short and not deep. This condition causes the students content to recall ability and comprehension to be lower than reading offline. Further research will be more interesting when examining how online materials influence or change students reading behavior. This is useful for lecturers as a consideration in presenting lecture materials amid the euphoria of ICT-based learning trends.
Interactive learning media can engage young learners to effectively absorb learning materials. Therefore, this developmental research was conducted to produce an interactive game that improves young learners' mastery of plural and singular nouns and enrich young learners' animal-related vocabulary. The researchers employed the ADDIE development model that began by analyzing problems related to the predetermined topic, analyzing the environment and work situation, designing the product, developing the product based on validation results from three expert validators, and conducting a product trial. The researchers investigated the product’s feasibility by performing a small-sccale trial and a large-scale trial. The research findings indicate that the developed interactive game was practical and useful. In short, the developed interactive game is feasible to assist young learners in learning plural and singular nouns and enrich their vocabulary.
This article was to find out about the effectiveness of applying dictogloss technique on students’ narrative text. A Quasi-Experimental design was used in this method, with using pre-test and post test design. Subject of this research was at the eleventh grade at state senior high 10 Bandar Lampung. The result of this study showed that the value of to (tobservation ) was 5.2. The value of t table with degree of freedom 38 in significance degree 5 % was 2.02 and in significance degree 1% was 2.71. It indicated that to was higher than or 2.02 < 5.26 > 2.71. for those analysis, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and t alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Hence, it was inferred that there were significant difference between students’ narrative writing score who were taught by dictoglos technique.
