Fungal contamination occurred on the salted Amazonian fish Osteoglossum bicirrhosum which were air dried in the shade. The human pathogenic fungus Exophiala wernec-kii was recovered as the sole contaminant from all salted fish. It was implicated for the first time as a halophilic saprophyte causing food spoilage.
