Being underweight is a common problem in developing countries, including Indonesia, that may cause infections, including viral ones. The solution to this problem is to provide Modisco cookies and auriculopuncture therapy with seed-pressing methods. Auriculopuncture is a traditional Chinese therapy using the seed-pressing method at the auricular point stimulating to relieve other body pathologies. While Modisco cookies have energy-dense, high- calories, digestible cookies that aim to help accelerate weight gain. This study aims to determine the effect of Modisco cookies compared to a combination of Modisco cookies with auriculopuncture on the increase of body weight among male adolescents. This study observed 22 male teenagers with low body weight for three weeks. The subjects are categorized into two treatment groups: (1) the Modisco cookies group and (2) the combination of Modisco cookies and the auriculopuncture treatment group every day for three weeks (26 days). This study compared the mean of the pretest and posttest of the weight changes using a T-test. Furthermore, the average weight changes between the two groups were compared using Manova repeated measured test. The Modisco cookies have nutrient-dense and easy to digest, while Auriculopuncture may stimulate to a certain point in the ear. The hypothalamus has a role in the production of the ghrelin hormone. The therapy may increase hormone appetite and reduce the use of fat reserves. It may increase the body weight of underweight adolescents significantly (p=0.00). A combination of Modisco cookies and auriculopuncture therapy gave a significant increase in adolescent body weight compared to modisco cookies.
Soursop leaves contain alkaloids that have pharmacological effects. This study aims determine the total alkaloid content of soursop leaf ethanol extract using a validated HPLC method. Extraction was carried out by soxhletation followed by liquid-liquid extraction using chloroform. Optimizing HPLC conditions on the mobile phase, flow rate, concentration, and wavelength, further testing the validation of the analytical method. Optimizing HPLC conditions obtained optimal results at concentration of 500 ppm with a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min using acetonitrile: methanol: water (80:5:15) at wavelength of 272 nm. These results have met the validation requirements of analytical methods including System Suitability Test (UKS), selectivity, linearity with y = 2.01914x –219,97226, correlation coefficient value (r) = 0.9995, and Vx0 value 0.11201%. The limit of detection and quantization were 8,78525 ppm and 29,28418 ppm, respectively. The RSD percentage of the precision test is 1.0453%, and the accuracy test is obtained from the recovery of 98-102%. The result of determining the total alkaloid content sample was 0.0862 ± 0.004 % (%w/w) of the entire alkaloid content (TALC) triple replication. This research concludes that the analytical method using the HPLC system for determining the total alkaloid content of the ethanolic extract of soursop leaves is validate
Introduction: Acne can be caused by the presence of acne-causing bacteria. Currently, various studies of acne treatment with herbal ingredients both topically and orally have been carried out with the aim of reducing acne-causing bacteria. Several studies have shown that the active compound of Secang, namely brazilin extracted with methanol and 50% ethanol in Propionibacterium acnes, has been shown to have anti-bacterial, lipase inhibitor, and antioxidant activity. So that researchers are interested in conducting research on "The Effect of a Secang Mask (Caesalpinia sappan) on Healing Acne (Acne vulgaris) in Women Aged 21-25 Years". Material and Methods: This type of research is a paired numerical comparative analytical study using experimental methods and data collection methods with repeated measurements of Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. 15 samples with acne were examined before given Secang mask with a composition of 0.5 grams of secang extract and 9.5 grams of rice flour. data was taken every 2 weeks for 4 weeks. The research data obtained will be presented in tabular form and then tested with the T-test in analyzing the results of the differences between pre-test and post-test Results: Based on the results of the study the effect of a secang mask (Caesalpinia sappan) on the healing of acne (Acne vulgaris) in women aged 21-25 years which was carried out for 30 days with a frequency of once every 2 days showed a significant decrease in the average total number of acne lesions (p = 0.00) compared to posttest, with a mean decrease of 33.38. Conclusion: From these statistical results, it can be concluded that secang mask therapy can improve acne healing in women aged 21-25 years which is characterized by a decrease in the total number of acne lesions, both comedones and inflammatory acne.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
