Objective: To understand, from the family’s perspective, the meaning of admitting the child in the hospital with the use of the instructional therapeutic play. Method: A phenomenological research with 12 families of children aged four to nine years old, recently admitted to a public and teaching hospital, in the inland of the state of São Paulo, from October to December 2016. They participated in an instructional therapeutic play session focusing on the procedures performed at hospital admission: weight, height, and vital sign measurements and test collection. The families, in turn, were invited to participate in a phenomenological interview the day after the session. Results: The instructional therapeutic play collaborated in the therapeutic procedures by understanding and modifying the child’s behavior. Also stressed by the families was the need for the toy to be incorporated as nursing care. Conclusion: Given the benefits to the child, the family believes that this strategy should be performed as a routine nursing care and, therefore, performed systematically during child hospitalization.
Objective: To understand adolescent's experiences with chronic renal failure disease, attended in a pubic teaching hospital at São Paulo state. Method: Phenomenological study, based on the philosophical reference of Martin Heidegger, with six adolescents interviewed by the following question: "What is it like to be an adolescent with chronic renal failure?" Results: Three ontological categories emerged: feeling different; experiencing renal insufficiency through renal replacement therapy; seeking normality. Conclusion:It was evidenced that the experiences of these adolescents were demonstrated by their behaviors of acceptance and denial, both related to chronic renal failure as a peculiar condition of their lives. Implications for practice: It is crucial that nursing directs a more careful look at adolescents with chronic renal failure, going beyond the disease and also considering the particularities of the adolescents necessary to face the adversities that arise from this experience.

Objective: to understand the experiences of Nursing professionals with the families of children hospitalized in a pediatric intensive care unit. Method: this is a qualitative study, using the analysis of the structure of the situated phenomenon as a methodological reference, carried out with 19 Nursing professionals working in the pediatric intensive care unit, of a public hospital in the state of São Paulo. We analyzed the speeches from the interviews according to the guidance of Martins and Bicudo. Results: two thematic categories emerged: "The family-being important for children in the pediatric intensive care unit"; "Being-yourself in the technique mode in family care in the pediatric intensive care unit". Discussion: the inclusion of the family does not happen in the studied unit because despite perceiving the benefits that the families bring to the child, they let it appear that they do not truly understand the importance of the presence of the family in the pediatric intensive care unit, revealing a long way to go. This is because professionals will need to be equipped to share this care, which is currently the sole responsibility of the Nursing team. Conclusion: this study revealed that
