This study aimed to describe the implementation of character education conducted at elementary school in Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study used descriptive qualitative research approach with the use of interview and questionnaire to collect the data. There were headmasters, teachers, and students from eight regions of Sulawesi to participate in the study as the research participants. Four character values were used to be the focus of the present study namely honesty, intelligence, care, and tenacity. Seven stages of character education strategy were used including giving assignment, habituating, training, teaching, guiding, modelling, and conditioning. Results showed that seven out of eight schools had implemented character education along with the seven required strategies, so that the students had been accustomed with the four character values that became the focus of the study. Another result depicted that one school in Central Sulawesi had not been successful in implementing three stages of character education strategy namely habituating, training, and conditioning. Some obstacles found as threats to the successful implementation of character education encompassed students' lacks of confidence in accomplishing individual assignments and of motivation in participating school's agenda in connection with character education.

This research was aiming at analyzing information literacy skills (ILS) among teachers, the challenges of mastering ILS, and the expected ILS training. The study involved 58 secondary school teachers in East Java, Indonesia. The questionnaire and the information literacy test were administered after the training to capture the data. The data were then descriptively analyzed with NVivo 12 and Minitab 16 Windows. The results have shown that more than half of all participants had scores below the standard of 70. The other findings indicated that the teachers were good at determining types of information and understanding research terminologies. However, they were still not successfully extracting what was important in mastering ILS determined by eight other indicators. To employ ILS, teachers should deal with the challenges, such as time management, motivation, and knowledge of writing. To sum up, the teachers still need more training sessions which focus on the continuity of making scientific articles for professional development. This training can even build some foundation to improve ILS to teachers.
Book leveling system is indispensable to prepare children to become life-long readers. In literacy learning, children read books according to their level of reading competence, and graded readers help teachers and parents select books that suit children's reading level. To enhance School Literacy Movement, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) has recently established a book leveling system. This study seeks to review MoEC book leveling system by comparing graded readers in Indonesia and the United Kingdom on the basis of the following indicators: structure and format, comparison of level, content, language, and graphic work. Taken as samples were graded readers published by Yayasan Literasi Anak Indonesia (Indonesian Children's Literacy Foundation; henceforth, YLAI), Indonesian digital graded readers distributed by The Asia Foundation through Let's Read, and the book leveling system established by MoEC. Meanwhile, graded readers published in Oxford Reading Tree and Ladybird series were used as samples from the UK. The results of the comparison reveal that the indicators used in MoEC system needs to provide more details so that it can be used as a better guideline for writers and teachers.
