The evidence support the existence of oxygen deprivation involved in pregnancy disorder or preeclampsia. The intensive hypoxia also regulates production of placental pro-inflammatory cytokines. Quercitrin belongs to flavonoid group is known to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to determine the potential of Quercitrin as anti-inflammatory in hypoxia-induced EA.hy926 as preeclampsia model. The cytotoxic assay of Quercitrin against EA.hy926 was conducted using MTS (3-4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium). The data were analyzed using SPSS ver 20.0 software. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted, followed Tukey HSD post-hoc test and p<0.05 was considered to be significant. The anti-inflammatory potential of Quercitrin (25 and 6.25 μg/ml) toward hypoxia-induced EA.hy926 was determined using ELISA to measure IL-10 and TNF-α. Quercitrin (3.13 - 25 μg/ml) were nontoxic to the EA.hy926 cells. Quercitrin (25 and 6.25 μg/ml) were capable to reduce TNF-α compared to positive control (2% O2 hypoxia-induced cells) but no significant increase in IL-10. Our study suggests that quercitrin possess anti-inflammatory properties through suppression of TNF-α in hypoxia-induced EA.hy926 cells.
Acne is a disease of the skin that often occurs during adolescence until adulthood. Acne is characterized by the appearance of several signs, namely blackheads, pustules, papules, cysts and nodes in the neck, face, upper arms, back and chest area. Acne is also a skin disease that affects more than 85% of adolescents around the world. Although not life-threatening, acne can affect a person's quality of life by giving a psychological effect that is bad for the sufferer in the form of a person's way of judging, responding to and looking at his condition and situation. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory power of citronella extract (Cymbopogon nardus) on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The study was conducted with experimental methods with the posttest design only group design controls conducted at the Microbiology Lab at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Prima Indonesia and the Pharmacy and Toxicology Lab at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of North Sumatra. The results showed that lemongrass leaf extract had a inhibitory effect on the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria with various concentrations of 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100%. The higher the concentration of fragrant lemongrass extract, the better the inhibition power.
Insulin resistance is a condition with damage to target organs that generally respond to the activity of the hormone insulin. About 10% of the population in big cities in Indonesia suffer from insulin resistance. At the cellular level, insulin resistance can result from damage to the pre-receptor, receptor, or post-receptor. The most common cause of insulin resistance is post-receptor damage, namely disruption and damage to insulin signaling pathways. To find out that the methanol extract of Sunkist orange peel can reduce blood sugar levels in Wistar rats. This research uses the experimental laboratory method in vivo with the chosen research design form, namely True Experimental Pre Test and Post Test Control. The Kruskal Wallis test showed that the Sunkist Orange Peel Methanol Extract resulted in a significant decrease in blood sugar levels of Wistar rats with a p-value <0.05, and also the Anova test showed that the Sunkist Orange Peel Methanol Extract resulted in a decrease in blood sugar levels of Wistar rats, which is significant with p-value <0.05. All doses tested affect lowering blood sugar levels, namely, 300 mg/kg BW, 450 mg/kg BW, and 600 mg/kg BW.
Abstrak : Infeksi jamur Candida albican adalah pathogen yang sering dijumpai dan menginfeksi pada lingkungan sekitar karenajamur ini bersifat flora normal pada tubuh. Daun bangun-bangun (Coleus amboinicus) adalah tanaman yang sangatdikenal pada rakyat suku batak dengan memiliki kandungan flavoniod dan tannin. Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untukmengetahui pengaruh daun bangun-bangun(Coleus amboinicus)terhadap pertumbuhan jamur Candida albicansdengan metode cakram pada suatu kelompok control, yaitu dilakukan dengan konsentrasi 20%,40%,60%,80%,dan100%. Pada hasil akhir penelitian menunjukkan zona hambat di ekstrak daun bangun-bangun (Coleus amboinicus)dengan konsentasi 20%,40%,60%,80%,dan 100%. Zona hambat yang ditemukan adalah memilki rata-rata diameter14,21, 16,05, 16,65, 17,61, dan 18,23. Kesimpulan yang didapat pada rata-rata zona hambat menunjukkan perbedaanhasil setiap perlakuan konsentrasi, semakin besar konsentrasi ekstrak daun bangun-bangun maka semakin besarzona hambat pada Candida albican.
