AbstractBy using ecofeminism perspective, this paper aims to describe the activity and activism of women's movement in Bandung that focuses on environmental issues. The subjects of this research are three women who pioneered environmental movements in urban communities in Bandung in their capacity as housewives. This research uses qualitative methods that produce descriptive data from interviews and direct observation. The results of research reveals that despite positioning themselves as objects, their status as housewives and their domestic/feminine roles have enabled them to act as environmentally conscious subjects. Though often regarded as simple and local, their activities and activism can be categorized as an eco-feminist movement. Not only because of their position and their status as housewives but also because of the activities and activism have obviously a direct positive impact on environmental sustainability and improvement, particularly in the area where they live.
Kata Kunci: realisme magis, le mal, fantasi, traumaAbstractThis paper is intended to reveal the meaning of magical realism in the novels of Sylvie Germain's Jours de Colère l’Enfant Méduse. In contrast to the definition of the genre fantastique (Todorov, 1970), magical realism is present as a reasonable and inseparable part of a realist story (Chanady, 1985). The magical realism that exists in these two novels lies in myths, legends, and fairy tale that are depicted in the narration, description, and characters. Eugene Arva (1995) revealed that magical realism is a way to express unexplained trauma, the characters in both novels have traumatic experiences both witnessed and experienced by themselves. By using a qualitative approach and analytical descriptive method, the results of this study indicate that the magical things inherent in the characters in both novels can be argued as a strategy to express extreme events experienced such as sexual violence and murder. The use of magic realism is not working to make the reader understand, but to feel the events that occurred. Keywords: Magical realism, evil, fantasy, trauma
This article discusses motherhood and mothering as portrayed in two auto/biographies of Krisdayanti, a prominent Indonesian female celebrity. Written at two different times and contexts, the first one largely focuses on portraying Krisdayanti in her persona as an Indonesian glamorous celebrity at her peak as it is faithfully observed in her likewise glamorous auto/ biography. The other one, presented in a much simpler book design and more straightforward narration, depicts her more as an ordinary person in her varied roles as a celebrity, a wife, a mother, a daughter, and a sister. The article takes note of the important dynamics and complexity of Krisdayanti's relationship with her mother and the significant roles that her mother plays that have shaped not only Krisdayanti's personal life but also her career. The two auto/biographies have shown how feminist mothering foster the formation of feminine/feminist agency and subjectivity that are constantly and continuously shifting and traversing. More specifically, this article suggests that the auto/biographies have enabled a space to reveal the empowering experience of motherhood and mothering which have contributed to the construction of a particular form of femininity within celebrity culture.
