Design/methodology/approach -The data were collected through interviews and focus group, and the respondents had completed at least one MOOC offering. This research used content and thematic analysis with the triangulation of methods and sources.Findings -The finding of this study reflects that MOOCs are inspiring great number of learners in Pakistan despite of factors impeding the surge of e-learning. MOOCs in regional languages with better electricity and internet connectivity could be very useful for the rural areas' people but it requires extra ordinary interest from government and academicians.Research limitations/implications -This is an exploratory qualitative study highlighting the potential and challenges of MOOCs from the perspective of faculty and students. However, it does not incorporate the views of university officials. Similar study could consider university officials and university owner as respondents. In addition, future studies could also investigate the factors inhibiting completion of MOOCs. Originality/value -Despite of the sharp rise of published literature on MOOCs, there is less contribution from the developing countries. This research enables us to develop better understanding of the potential and challenges of MOOCs in the social context of Pakistan.
This study aimed to explain the development of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in Islamic religious higher education which refers to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), the National Higher Education Standards (SNPT), and the Science Integration-Interconnection Paradigm as an orientation for scientific development at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. This research used qualitative methods with a naturalistic qualitative approach. The research took place at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Education (FITK), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta with a focus on the study program of PAI. The subjects of this study consisted of the Dean, Deputy Dean, and Chair of the Study Program, lecturers, and students of PAI. The research procedure was taken in four steps: observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed by using the inductive model. The findings of the study indicated as follows; first, curriculum development emphasizes the clarity of the graduate profile, learning outcomes, the PAI field of study as the scope of development, the weight of the semester credit units. Second, curriculum development accommodates professional teacher competencies with four competencies; pedagogic, personality, social and professional. Third, curriculum development in the PAI Study Program emphasizes aspects of Islamic Education with its main sources, namely the Al-Qur'an and Al-Hadith.
The high disclosure of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in overseas countries, especially in Europe and the United States, was the motivation for this study to obtain empirical evidence on whether CEOs' international characteristics influence CSR activity disclosure to firms in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the influence of CEOs who have experience working abroad, CEOs who have educational background abroad, and CEOs who have foreign citizenship on the disclosure of CSR. The sample in this study is 139 companies in the manufacturing industry listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2016. This research analyzes companies' annual reports by using a content analysis method based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 index. The results of this study indicate that to increase the level of CSR disclosure, companies in Indonesia can consider the international characteristics of the CEO, namely, the CEO's experience working abroad and the CEO's educational background abroad, when choosing a CEO because these factors affected CSR disclosure in Indonesia. Notably, foreign citizenship of CEOs did not affect CSR disclosure in Indonesia.
