Vocabulary is a knowledge of words and word meanings. To increase the student’s vocabulary, the writer chosen game. A game is an alternative way to teach. One of the alternative games is a charades game. So, based on it the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of charades game toward student’s vocabulary. This study was conducted at the first-grade students of SMPN 18 Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. This study used a quasi-experimental design that is used pre-test and post-test control group design. The population of study involved 40 students from two classes SMPN 18 Mataram in academic year 2017/2018. The writer took all of the students as a sample, and they are 20 students belong to the experimental group and 20 students in the control group. In this study, the writer used the vocabulary test consists of 20 items multiple choice covered with the indicator of vocabulary consist of spelling, pronunciation, and meaning. The result of this study, the students could understand spelling, pronunciation, and meaning and they could answer the test vocabulary easily through charades game. In this data, pre-test, and post-test as the research technique of data collection, then followed by analyzing the data using the t-test formula. The level of significance is at 0, 05%, t-test = 2,99 and t-table= 2,02, Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It means that there was a significant difference between the student's pre-test and post-test scores. Thus, the writer concludes that the charades game on the student’s vocabulary affects.
The objectives of this research were to find out the students’ speaking English ability on specific purpose of learning in academic year 2018/2019. This research focus on the specific material in learning at the second semester students’ of Planology Study Program in academic year 2018/2019This research used a descriptive quantitative research. The total number of population of this research was 50 students. The researcher took the sample by using a purposive sampling. Thus, the total number of sample was 20 students. In data collection, this research used oral monologue test. The researcher used descriptive statistics to analyzed the data that indicated general tendencies in the data (range, mean, and median). Based on the data found that the students got minimum score was 45, maximum score was 82, range score was 37 and mean score 63.75. In this case, the students’ speaking English ability on specific purpose of learning were on the good level. It can be concluded that the students were able to speak English on specific purpose of learning
Origami is a kind of method for teaching language through dialogues whichstresses on the students’ habit formation by repetition, memorizing grammatical structures through substitutions, singular-plural and tense transformations etc, using the target language and the culture where the language is spoken. The objective of this research was to find out the effect of Origami in teaching writing procedure text. Method design this research was a true-experimental method. The population of this research was the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Mataram in Academic year 2016/2017. This study the writer took all population as the samples that consisted of 38 students. Because the population less than 100, they divided into two classes, namely experimental class 21 and control class 17. The writer collected the data using the testing method pre and post-test. According to Hughes rubric and t-test formula theory. The result of this research showed that the mean score of experimental group 9.5 and the mean score of control group 2.9. Based on t-test it showed that t- value 11.9 and after consulting to t-table, the t-value was higher than t- table. To conclude origami teaching and learning is more effective to improve students’ writing procedure text, this can be seen from the results of test score, it shows that the experimental class which was given treatment using origami teaching and learning got a higher score than control class without taught by used origami teaching and learning method. Besides the origami could improve the students’ motivation, the origami could attract the students’ attention, the origami help the students to memorize the vocabulary and the origami make the teaching and learning activities interesting. Presentation in which the writer presented the materials by using origami as media the students clearly and easily to understand. The writer concluded that Origami can warn up the student that was done to make students interested in learning writing procedure text and has a positive effect in teaching writing procedure text.
In expressing something, speakers showed an action. This action could make the listeners easier to know what the speakers intended to. This is called speech act. The purpose of this research was to analyze the types of speech act used in college discourse at the English departement of Muhammadiyah University of Mataram. The researcher used those speeches as the data. The researcher took 14 students of English departement at Muhammadiyah University of Mataram as the participants. Observation was used as the data collection procedure. The result of research revealed that the aspects of speech act used at the college discourse analyzed by the researcher were: locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. From those three aspects analyzed by the researcher, illocutionary act was the most often used in college discourse at the English departement of Muhammadiyah University of Mataram.
