The element that makes the poem beautiful is a figure of speech. There are many types of figures of speech, for instance, metaphor, personification, irony, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and assonance. The researcher chooses Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Bells” to identify because the poem “The Bells” has not many often identified by using figures of speech. This research aimed to identify figures of speech and to find out the possible message that Edgar Allan Poe tries to convey in the poem. This research used qualitative and quantitative methods. The data and source of data took from Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Bells”. This poem has (29%) figures of speech is Metaphor, (27%) is Alliteration, (22%) Onomatopoeia, (11%) is Assonance, (9%) is Personification and (2%) is Irony. But only some figures of speech become the power in this poem. For instance, in researcher result, the power of figures of speech in the poem “The Bells” is Metaphor and Alliteration.
This quantitative study aimed at finding out the effectiveness of self and peer-correction techniques in teaching writing at the twelfth graders of MAS Muallimin NW Boro Tumbuh in the academic year 2022/2023. The samples of this study were taken through random sampling technique consisting of 25 students. The data were collected from pre-test and post-test. The gained data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test. This test was administrated to know answer the hypothesis. The result of the study indicated that self and peer-correction technique was significantly effective in teaching writing for the twelfth graders of MAS Muallimin NW Boro Tumbuh in the academic year 2022/2023. This can be seen from the result of the students’ mean score in the pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test, the mean score was 8.07 with the standard deviation 1.809. In the post-test, whereas, the mean score was 9.77 and the standard deviation was 2.221. The result proved that the pre-test was lower than the post-test. In addition, the hypothesis testing showed that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In a nutshell, the self and peer—correction technique is an advisable technique to apply by the English teacher in their writing class.
This study aimed at finding out the improving of writing skill (WS) and self-development (SD) students of MA by applying the Grammar Translation Method (GTM). This research is qualitative research. The research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) NW Mengkuru, East Lombok, NTB. The data of this research collected through test and non-test. Based on the results of test and data analysis it can be concluded that the ability of students in improving writing skills using grammar translation method is very effective and needs to be applied and developed. The application of grammar translation method can improve students’ writing skills and self-development.
This research is aimed to measure the students’ ability in writing narrative text. The population of this research are all students of MA Darussiddiqien NW Martak Paok. The researcher takes 20% from the number of population; it’s mean that the researcher takes 40 students as the sample. This research is categorized into quantitative research. The data of this research is collected through tests. Looking at the result of analyzing the data, the students are able to write narrative text, the students’ mean score 68. There were 35 students (87,5%) who got good and there were 5 students (12,5%) who got fairly good, there were 36 students (87,5%) who got poor and there were none of students who category very good. The students’ level in writing narrative text was fair.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa MTs. Darul Furqan NW Mengukur dalam menggunakan short functional text didalam berbicara. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan descriptive quantitative. Setelah mengumpulkan data dan menghitung total nilai yang diperoleh oleh siswa melalui tes, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa kelas delapan mempunyai kemampuan dalam menggunakan short functional text dalam berbicara. Kategori yang digunakan untuk mengukur persentase kemampuan siswa adalah rendah, menengah/sedang, dan tinggi. Adapun level yang diperoleh oleh siswa kelas delapan dalam penelitian ini adalah level menengah. Oleh karna itu bisa disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan siswa kelas delapan MTs. Darul Furqan NW Mengkur didalam berbicara menggunakan short functional text cukup memadai.
