Efforts to increase student satisfaction as higher education customers need to be made, since student satisfaction is related to the university quality. This research aimed to study the model of student satisfaction as university customers by using survey method. The sample was determined to be 208 people who were obtained by proportional random sampling. The instrument used was a questionnaire with questions of total student quality, quality of lecturer service, and student satisfaction as higher education customers, with the reliability coefficients of 0.82, 0.84, and 0.86, respectively. Moreover, SEM analysis techniques using AMOS tools were conducted. Based on the results of the confirmatory factor analysis, Several points have been obtained, such as: (1) personal leadership is the strongest indicator (69.38%) to form the total quality student variable, (2) responsiveness is the strongest indicator (81.90%) to form the quality of lecturer service variable, and (3) satisfaction is the strongest indicator (78.49%) to form the student satisfaction as university customers variable. Furthermore, the analysis result found that the total personal quality of students had no significant effect on the testing of student satisfaction variables as university customers, However, the service quality variable had a positive effect on the student satisfaction. The results of this study will strengthen the student satisfaction model in higher education management and contribute to the education management science.
Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mentetahui karakteristik SMA dan SMK di Medan. Karakteristik yang diteliti adalah: neuroticism, extraversion, keterbukaan, keramahan, dan hati nurani. Dengan penelitian ini kita mendapatkan data perbedaan karakter di SMA dan SMK siswa. Mendapatkan perbedaan karakter antara pria dan wanita dalam setiap kelompok sekolah. Penelitian ini di SMA dan SMK di Medan, 2008. Sampel penelitian 600 siswa. Metode Penelitian kuantitatif. Data diperoleh melalui kuesioner. Kuesioner dicoba dengan nilai koefisien reliabilitas (r=0,875). Hasil penelitian adalah: (1) Karakteristik siswa SMA (Neuroticsm, extraversion, keterbukaan, keramahan, dan hati nurani) sudah cukup dan kategori tinggi, (2) Karakteristik siswa SMK (Neuroticsm, extraversion, keterbukaan, keramahan, dan hati nurani) cukup tinggi dan kategori; (3) Para siswa perempuan SMA lebih tinggi hati nurani daripada siswa laki-laki; (4) Neuroticsm, extraversion, keterbukaan, dan keramahan antara siswa laki-laki secara signifikan tidak berbeda dengan siswa perempuan di SMA; (5) Neuroticsm, extraversion, keterbukaan, keramahan, dan conscientiousness antara mahasiswa laki-laki secara signifikan tidak berbeda dengan siswa perempuan di SMK. Kata kunci : karakteristik siswa, SMA, SMK. Abstract: This research was aimed to: investigate the Senior High School Studen’t Characteristic in Medan. The characteristic which investigated are: neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. By this research we can get the accurate data that describe the differences of characters in SMA and SMK students. And then we can get the differences of characters among the male and female in each group of school. This research was taking place in SMA and SMK in Medan, 2008. The sample of this research is 600 pupils. The research was taken in the quantitative method. The data that we have got from the questioner. Questioner has been tried with the value of reliability coefficient (r=0,875). The results of the research are: (1) The SMA Studen’t Characteristic in Medan (Neuroticsm, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) is enough and high categories; (2) The SMK Student Characteristic in Medan (Neuroticsm, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) is enough and high categories; (3) The female SMA students are more conscientiousness than male students; (4) Neuroticsm, extraversion, openness, and agreeableness between male students significantly is not different with female students in SMA; (5) Neuroticsm, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness between male students significantly is not different with female students in SMK. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas pembimbing skripsi mahasiswa oleh dosen pembimbing di lingkungan Fakultas Teknik Universitas Negeri Medan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian survey eksploratif terhadap kinerja dosen pembimbing skripsi, sebagai bahan masukan untuk pengembangan pedoman penulisan skrpsi dan upaya peningkatan kualitan pembimbingan skripsi. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang sedang dalam pembimbingan skripsi dan alumi. Alat pengumpul data menggunakan angket penilaian kinerja dosen dalam pembimbingan skripsi. Jumlah sampel yang telibat sebanyak 269 responden. Teknik analisis data digunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Ketersediaan buka pedoman penulisan skripsi sangat membantu kelancaran pelaksanaan pembimbingan baik bagi dosen maupun mahasiswa, (2) Pola pembimbingan secara umum telah dilaksanakan secara rutin dan terjadwal melalui kegiatan tatap muka, korespondensi, dan melaui email, (3) Hasil analisis data dari tiga aspek penilaian diketahui bahwa aspek kedisiplinan sebesar 74% dalam kategori cukup disiplin, aspek kompetensi profesionalisme dosen sebesar 77% dalam kategori cukup kompeten, dan aspek kompetensi sosial dan kepribadian sebesar 66% dalam kategori cukup kompeten. Rekomendasi yang disampaikan adalah perlunya komitmen jadwal pelaksanaan pembimbingan sehingga masing-masing memiliki tanggung jawab untuk melakukan kegiatan pembimbingan secara terjadwal.
The rapid development of construction industry is fostering the construction service companies to hire sufficient and competent professional cost estimators who are mainly graduated from universities. This study aims to examine the students’ interest in contraction cost estimating and the effect of using real-object media and PowerPoints media in learning achievement of cost estimation. The method of this study was quasi-experimental conducted with a 2 x 2 factorial design using 40 samples. The instruments consisted of learning outcomes assesment and students’ interest testing with reliability coefficients of 0.92 and 0.81 respectively. The hypothesis was tested through variance analysis and Tukey test techniques. The research findings showed that there are interactions between the implementation of real object media and the students’ interests. For the students with high level of interest to learn, the implemetation of real object media did not give significant differences compared to the use of PowerPoints media. In the other hand, for the students with relatively low level of interest to learn, the real-object media is more effective than PowerPoints media. This finding is very useful for lecturers to improve learning achievement in cost estimation learning thus the graduates have the competence and expertise in the construction service industry.
This study aims to find out the effect of the Google SketchUp application and the need for achievement on students’ learning achievements of building interior design. Quasi-experimental research was conducted at the Vocational High School (VHS) with a 2 x 2 factorial design. The Google SketchUp application was used in the experimental group, while the PowerPoint Slides were used in the control group. The sample consisted of 56 VHS students, study program of modeling design and building information. The instruments used are need for achievement tests and learning achievement tests with reliability coefficients of 0.916 and 0.671. To test the hypothesis using multiple variance analysis techniques and the Tukey test. The results show that the Google SketchUp application is more effective than the PowerPoint in the learning of building interior design. Students who classified with a high need for achievement earn higher learning achievement compared to the lower one. There is an interaction between the Google SketchUp application and the students’ need for achievement. For students who have a high need for motivation, using the Google SketchUp application is more effective than using PowerPoint Slides. On the other side, the students who have a low need for motivation, the use of the Google SketchUp application does not differ significantly compared to the use of PowerPoint Slides. This finding is very useful for vocational teachers as an effort to improve the learning process of building interior design. However, it is also possible that these findings can apply more broadly to student learning in other skills competencies in VHS. These findings contribute to the management of vocational education as an effort to implement VHS revitalization. Furthermore, it also can be used as a consideration by the Head of VHS and decision-makers in the Ministry of Education and Culture.
