Although social capital and collaborative knowledge creation were considered essential drivers in maintaining competitive advantage, empirical evidence on the impact of collaborative knowledge creation on organizational agility remained limited. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between social capital and collaborative knowledge creation in building innovation and agility and testing strategic flexibility as a moderating variable. It employed a quantitative design by distributing questionnaires to 414 managers and assistant managers of SMEs analyzed by SmartPLS-SEM. The results showed that social capital significantly affected collaborative knowledge creation, innovation, and organizational agility. Meanwhile, collaborative knowledge creation has no significant impact on organizational agility. Furthermore, strategic flexibility was not a moderating variable of the relationship between innovation and organizational agility. Based on these findings, this study produced recommendations for managers to strengthen organizational agility.
PurposeThe present study aims to examine the relationship between green economic incentives (GEIs) and environmental commitment (EC) as drivers of the circular economy (CE) practices in small and medium enterprises (SMEs).Design/methodology/approachA cross-sectional study of 594 assistant managers and SME managers was used while data were analyzed through Smart PLS.FindingsThe results showed that GEIs positively affect the SMEs' EC and the CE practice model. Furthermore, EC is the mediator between GEIs and the three CE practices: internal environmental management, eco-design and corporate asset management and recovery (CAM&R).Practical implicationsThe present study provided a basis for understanding the relevance of SMEs' CE practices and designing a strategic plan for its implementation. Also, it provides insight into that collaboration between triple helix (the government, SMEs and the community) is needed in increasing environmental awareness toward sustainability.Originality/valueThis study enhanced the natural resource-based view (NRBV), describing the mechanisms that view GEIs and EC as pollution prevention in CE practice.
The changing world of work is creating new challenges for employers and employees. Employers expect new workers to have a broader range of competencies and ability, strong job specific skills and employability skills. Workers entry skills that are demanded by employers may be influenced by many factors including nature of work and culture of society. The objectives of this study were to examine the labour market demand on skills as typically highlighted in job advertisements in Indonesia, and to develop a conceptual framework for employability skills. The research was conducted using content analysis method, a commonly used method in studies of job advertisements. The content analysis of job advertisements is used to identify a wide range of employability skills needed by today's labour market. The job advertisements were collected from major newspapers (published daily) that are circulated nationwide , during February to July 2017. There are 57 job advertisements analysed. In this research, employability skills framework refer to a set of generic skills and personal attributes. The research identified 272 key terms for employability skills requirements, consisting of 191 key terms for generic skill and 81 key terms for personal attributes. In most job advertisements, employers place highest value on employability skills and lowest value on academic qualifications. Communication skills, self management skills, teamwork skills, creativity and innovation skills, and problem-solving skills are the top five of the generic skills most frequently requested in the job advertisements. Personal attributes are personal characteristics based on behaviors and attitudes that can not be separated with generic skills, including: honesty, independence, accuracy, appearance, ethics and behaviors, openness, and other characters.
