University students today in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) confront a world in which old ideals learned under state socialism are being questioned. Despite initial difficulties after the end of socialism, most of these countries now have more stable market economies. This article investigates how macroeconomic variables relate to ideals for future work in samples of students from eight CEE countries and the United States. Results indicate there are some significant relationships between macroeconomic factors and job values. Wanting a job that pays well is associated with poorer economic conditions, whereas wanting a career is associated with better economic conditions. Results for wanting a job that allowed time for family are mixed, with higher GDP per capita a positive predictor but economic growth a negative predictor. Economic predictors of wanting a job helping others are weak, with a significant effect of growth found only when U.S. data are added.
Abstract. The article overviews the ethical aspects of sustainable development in Lithuania under the conditions of globalisation. With reference to the accumulated theoretical and practical material, evaluating the principles of a sustainable development implementation and the systems of ethical behaviour, further development perspectives of sustainable development on the ethical plane in Lithuania are analysed. Spirituality plays a very important role because unique values and value orientations existing in every culture influence the worldview and life perception of members of the culture. The modern, dynamic lifetime determines rapid cultural changes and many-sided influence of one culture on another and has significant impact on implementation of sustainable development principles in Lithuania.
Research background: There are many scientific papers dealing with the challenges of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) implementation at the company level. However, there are few studies dealing with gender difference between female and male managers in the perception towards CSR initiative.
Purpose of the article: To understand the differences between male and female managers’ behaviour in the process of CSR implementation in companies.
Methods: A survey of managers at different levels in Lithuanian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) was performed in 2019. The study focused on the female and male respondents’ answers to the participation in CSR implementation, their perception about CSR implementation and the most important issues for them in that process.
Findings & Value added: The results of the study indicated that, compared to their male counterparts, female respondents highlighted different factors having impact on successful implementation of CSR initiatives. Female managers were more convinced to the benefits of CSR practices than their male counter-parts. The “Communication skills” were defined as the most important for implementing CSR strategy for the females and “Understanding of CSR strategy” for males. For most of the female managers, “Sociality” was the most important competence necessary for a leader, followed by “Global and holistic thinking”, however, the male respondents were more doubtful about all the necessary competencies for a sustainability leader. The main theoretical value added of the paper is elicitation of the differences between male and female managers in the perception of CSR initiatives and necessary skills of a leader for implementing these initiatives in SMEs. The practical and managerial im-plications were also provided for the strengthening of the CSR activities in SMEs.
ABSTRACT. Nowadays women more often lead teams, make plans as well as important decisions. They also strive for good results when collaborating with partners and take part in negotiations. Most of them get rather general recommendations on how to act in negotiations but very little attention is paid to gender differences, especially not enough interest is paid to the impact of women and their behavior in negotiations. Success in sustainable negotiation in many cases depends on gender stereotypes prevailing in the society. The object in this paper is the importance of gender differences in sustainable negotiations. The aim of the paper is to discuss the main gender behavior differences in sustainable negotiations.
