Character building has been carried out in the school environment, from early childhood to higher education. This study focuses on two character education values namely religious and discipline. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, and the purpose of this study was to identify the application of two values of character education in the subjects and school culture in elementary school in Teluk Naga District, Tangerang Regency. The number of samples in this research are five public elementary schools (SDN) in Teluk Naga District of Tangerang Regency, it includes one school of each village; SDN in Kampung Melaya Barat, Muara, Teluk Naga, Pangkalan, and Kampung Besar. Based on the research that has been conducted, the five schools have well applied religious and discipline values in learning activities and school culture. The implementation of these values can be carried out in opening, core, and closing activities during teaching and learning activities. Moreover, the implementation of religious and discipline values can also be implemented through the school culture, that is by facilitating students to do routine activities, becoming paragons of virtue, and conditioning.
Abstract It goes without saying that vocabulary mastery has a pivotal role in language learning. The more vocabulary the students acquire, the easier the students master the language skills. However, to acquire vocabulary is not an easy task for most students. To acquire vocabulary means that learners need to understand the aspects of vocabulary such as meaning, grammar, pronunciation, and spelling. However, the subjects of this study found it difficult to understand all the aspects. To overcome the problem, teacher needs to explore the use of teaching media. One of media that can be used in teaching vocabulary is song, but to make it more fun and practical, teacher can make use of online music player Joox, one of mostly used music player. This study explores the use of Joox to teach English vocabulary and describe students' responses to the teaching model. In general, students show good responses to the implementation of vocabulary learning using Joox. Therefore, it is recommended for teachers to use it as a medium in teaching vocabulary, and the students to use it for independent learning. Keywords: Joox, teaching media, teaching vocabulary
English essay writing is a skill that university students should develop. However, many students find it difficult to acquire that skill. Technology provides many advantages in teaching and learning process, not to mention to help students develop their writing skill. Andy English is one of application like instant messangers, but the users can do conversation or chatting with robot. The aim of this research was to know the effect of Andy English Application in improving students’ writing skill. This research was conducted for 2nd semester students of Economic Education at University of Islamic Syekh Yusuf. This study was quantitative research with a pre-experimental design one group pre-test and post-test. There were 12 students as a sample. The data collected by the pre test, treatment and post test. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result shows that Asymp.sig (2 tailed) is less than α (0.000 < 0.05), it means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. By calculating the data it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of applying Andy English apps in improving students’ writing skill. Andy English apps also can improve students’ vocabulary and develop self-confident in their writing skill. So it is recommended for the teacher to overcome any problems in learning English especially in writing.
