This research is to identify how the students’ perception of using movie to improve students’ English speaking skill of SMA Negeri 2 Mempawah Hilir. It is a descriptive study and the participants are 60 students of year-11 of SMA Negeri2 Mempawah Hilir. The data were obtained using questionnaires. The data analysis is focused on students’ perception as the main component supporting compelling education and learning. The result of this research were analyzed qualitatively. The findings showed that the students have mostly been positively responded. It can be seen from the results of the questionnaire. For positive response, the students expect it would give them more many educational movies published that can help them supplement their education. Overall, it can be concluded that using movie had been contributed to improve the students’ English speaking skill.
The primary purpose of this study is to find out information about the quality of item analysis on English teacher-made tests related to the difficulty level, item discrimination level, validity, and reliability of the final semester assessment for the twelfth-grade student of SMAN 8 Pontianak in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher conducted this study using descriptive quantitative analysis with the data obtained from the English teacher-made test, consisting of 40 items with 257 test-takers of twelfth-grade students. The researcher analyzed the test items by using the combinations of Master TAP and SPSS Version 16 applications. Based on the difficulty level, the analysis results show that 22 items were categorized as easy, 14 items as medium, and four items as difficult level. Moreover, the item level of item discrimination shows that 9 items are categorized as poor, 18 items as enough, and 13 items as good index level. The analysis results also show that 23 items as valid questions, while the other 17 are invalid. On the other hand, the questions' reliability level showed satisfactory results, with the K-R20 result of 0.835. The results of the analysis showed that there were some questions that had already of good quality, but some problematic items were also found after being analyzed. Therefore, it is necessary for the teacher to conduct an evaluation of the problematic items so that the assessment process will be better in the future. The research is aimed to investigate the relevance between the focused materials in the English Textbook “Headlines” for grade XII and the criteria demanded by Focal Point. This research used qualitative research. This study used content analysis as the methodology. Based on the findings of analyzing the content of the textbook "Headlines" for XII grade of high school, it is found that the textbook content only fulfilled the 11 (eleven) points criteria of the focal point with a total of 31 points from A, B, and C of relevancy and it even did not reach half of the total. Therefore, it can be concluded that the textbook's content and related activities should be redesigned by following the criteria of Focal Point.
This study was aimed to find out the teaching strategies that used by the teacher in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text in X grade of SMA Negeri 1 Semparuk. The participant of this is research is an English teacher who has been teaching for about 18 years in SMA Negeri 1 Semparuk. A descriptive qualitative design was employed in this research by using semi-structured interview and observation as the technique of data collection. The findings of the research showed that the teacher used two strategies in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text they were small group discussion strategy and Questions and Answers Relationship (QnAR) strategy. The teacher used small group discussion strategy in helping students to get the same opportunity to understand the material. Another strategy was Questions and Answers Relationship (QnAR) strategy used in order to obtain students’ critical thinking. Furthermore, QnAR strategy was used in measuring and knowing students’ understanding about the material. In addition, the finding showed that these strategies gave good impact to influence students’ reading comprehension ability of narrative text. It can be seen from the teaching learning process and the score of the individual evaluation test.
The research was aimed to find out students’ perception towards the use of Facebook for written communication outside of the classroom tenuously. The research was conducted in a descriptive quantitative study that was accomplished at the Eleventh grade students of Multimedia program major at SMK Negeri 6 Pontianak. The survey questionnaire was administered to the 50 participants throughout Google Form to collect the data accessibly. The result elucidated that the ground of Facebook had positively reinforced students (96%) to communicate in the English language within solitary and intercommunication state. Accordingly, the finding in the research presented that 80% of students agreed that Facebook is easy and pleasing to communicate in English autonomously. Further, 88% of students agreed that Facebook personal chat is the most used feature to communicate in English conveniently. Additionally, 66% of students agreed that Facebook allowed them to utilize English for written communication. In sum, the students were agreed on Facebook as a helpful platform for communication. It was shown in 50% students disagreed that they feel less embarrassed to communicate in English on Facebook as a challenge. Hence, students’ personal interest on Facebook can be channeled to communicate in English collaboratively. It is suggested that the use of Facebook for communication in English language considerably set the tool to encourage school integration of the educational technologically external environment.
