In line with the National Education Philosophy (NEP), the Malaysian Education Blueprint (2013)(2014)(2015)(2016)(2017)(2018)(2019)(2020)(2021)(2022)(2023)(2024)(2025) was launched in order to produce students who are capable of thinking constructively and able to face the obstacles, while developing leadership skills and potential in students. However, family functioning also plays a role in developing students' resilience and positive thinking. Therefore, this study is to identify the relationship between family functioning, resilience, and cognitive distortion among students. The quantitative approach was used in this study, while the cross-sectional surveys applied in the data collection process. The instruments used were Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales III, Resilient Scale, and Cognitive Distortion Scale. A total of 376 respondents from daily secondary school students in the Northern Zone Malaysia were participated in this study. Systematic random sampling and disproportionate stratified random sampling had been used. Quantitative data were analysed by Pearson Correlation using the Statistical Package for Social Science for Windows (SPSS). The findings showed a significant relation between family functioning, resilience, and cognitive distortion. In conclusion, this study has builds a significant theoretical framework about family functioning, resilience, and cognitive distortion among students, as well as being able to contribute to various parties such as school management, counsellors, parents, and researchers in order to produce future leaders who capable in various aspects.
Isti'arah and kinayah are among figurative expressions, commonly found in Arabic language. Isti'arah refers to the use of words which are not from its derivative meaning and the correlation between original meaning and majazi meaning based on the foundation of similarity. Kinayah, on the other hand, are words, which means beyond its literal meaning. Both elements are often discussed by scholars, especially in the study of Quran and Arabic Balaghah. The objective of this study is to identify strategies employed by Arab-Malay translators when dealing with both elements in Quranic verses, besides examining for the best translating strategies for expressions of isti'arah and kinayah. This study is qualitative in nature, using content analysis method. Data was collected from Tafsir Pimpinan al-Rahman, tafsir al-Haramain and Mushaf al-Farid. Five of each isti'arah and kinayah statements were selected to be analysed based on istiárah translating strategies, as proposed by Majdi (2009). The analysis of translating strategies is carried out by comparing translation in the three tafsir texts. Findings revealed that three strategies which are commonly used by translators are literal translating strategy, tafsir strategies and explanatory strategy through the use of footnotes. This study also found that expressions of istia'rah and kinayah should be best dealt through the use of literal translating and tafsir strategy while a combination of literal translating strategy and explanatory strategy are observed best when translating expressions of kinayah.
This study discussed the application of translating strategies from Arabic language to Bahasa Melayu in the form of audiovisual, which is the subtitling of an Arabic animated drama entitled "Musa Kalimullah'. Poor quality of subtitling, and low competency of both the subtitlist's source language and viewers' foreign language are the challenges in this field. Public's lack of understanding on the process and problems in subtitling and the difficulties of translating idiomatic language and cultural elements also triggered this study to be conducted in order to improve the quality of subtitling. The objectives of this research is to identify translating strategies applied by the subtitlist in interpreting Arabic dialogue, besides analyzing the most commonly used translating strategies in audiovisual translation. This study is qualitative in nature which used content analysis to gather data. It is based on Newmark's translating strategies. The corpus used for this study are two episodes, which are the ninth and thirteenth episode. A total of three scences containing 22 sampels of dialogues and subtitles are used. Findings revealed the applied translating strategies are literal translating, transposition, synonyms, omission, reduction, functional matching and cultural matching. Based on the selected samples, the application of literal translating is the highes. This study also found that the subtitlist tend to apply written textual translating method in audiovisual translation by applying literal translating stratigies in each dialogue, whereas indirect translating strategies such as omission and reduction are rarely used.
