The purposes of this research were: 1) development of students worksheet Problem Based Learning (PBL) based on Local Potential; 2) test feasibility of the PBL model; 3) determine the effectiveness of PBL model. Analysis of the data used for research and development are qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis, as well as the percentage techniques. Research and development of PBL models based on local potential uses 4-D model. The results of research and development showed: 1) product of PBL-based models are developed based on the stages of the Local Potential PBL syntax that uses indicators of critical thinking skills, 2) feasibility of the model PBL-based Local Potential according to experts is very well qualified with average of 92,1 %, qualified by education practition is very well with average of 94,5 %, whereas according to qualified students an excellent with average of 88,2 %; 3) student's worksheet PBL-based Local Potential effectively improve critical thinking skills and learning results with gain value 9 and N-gain value 0.28 at low category. Based on result of t scores obtainable gain value 9.06 and N-gain value 0.420 at medium category. Environmental attitude should be possessed by students as an effort to manage their relationship with environmental problems. However, there has never been any study on the environmental attitudes of prospective biology teachers in Indonesia. This study aims to discover the environmental attitude of the prospective science teachers throughout Indonesia. This cross-sectional survey study analyzes the aspects of gender, grade point average (GPA), college status, and study status which are positioned as the character of the respondent whose impact on the students’ environmental attitudes are analyzed in this study. The target population size of this study is 1300 people. Thus, based on Krejcie and Morgan Table, the minimum sample size with a confidence level of 95% and margin error of 5% is 1235 students. The data collection instrument used in this study is the Environmental Attitude Inventory/EAI questionnaire which has been validated by bilingual experts and transformed into an online questionnaire by means of Google Form. SPSS software was used to examine the data. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in EA scores based on gender, GPA factor, and university status background. The difference in EA scores is affected by whether or not students have taken courses related to the environment ownership. The researchers believe that it is critical to ensure that the course materials concerning environmental education are properly planned and implemented. Courses should be supplemented with themes on environmental issues ranging from local to global scope.
This study was intended to: (1) describe the results of the development of the Life Skill integrated Science-PBL module, (2) analyze the feasibility of the Life Skill integrated Science-PBL module, and (3) oversee the effectiveness of the module to improve critical thinking skills of students at the secondary school level. The development model used was the 4D Thiagarajan model which consisted of four stages of development, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. The study sample was taken as many as 97 students from three different schools. The data collection instruments were questionnaires, observation sheets, and tests of critical thinking skills. The feasibility test involved material and media expert lecturers, as well as practitioners. The effectiveness of the module was measured by finding a normalized gain score for the pretest-posttest conducted during a field trial or implementation trial. The results suggested that the Life Skill integrated Science-PBL module was suitable for use in the learning process based on the results of the validation of experts and practitioners. The calculation of the N-gain obtained the value of 0.72, which meant that the Life Skill integrated Science-PBL module was effective in improving students' critical thinking skills. The results of the questionnaire analysis of student and teacher responses showed that overall, the module received good responses.
This study aims to determine the morphological and anatomical characteristic kinship of faloak plant (Sterculia quadrifida R.Br) growing in Kupang Regency as learning source for morphology and anatomy of plant course based on local natural resources. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Biology Education Study Program, Kupang Muhammadiyah University from March to May 2019. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach with cluster analysis method. To see the kinship of the plant, this study used UPGMA method of Nei and Li's coefficient similarity through the MVSP software program version 3.2. The results of this study show that faloacic kinship from the three locations in Kupang Regency had a value of 77%. Meanwhile, anatomical characteristics show that the highest stomata density value was 5.6 stomata/µm and the lowest stomata density value was 2.9 stomata/µm.
In accordance with the paradigm of 21st century education, teachers are required to facilitate students with the learning process which addresses the improvement of students’ higher thinking skill. The community service which was conducted in MTs Al Ikhlas Soe, East Nusa Tenggara was aimed at: 1) culturing as well as developing students’ literacy in school; 2) improving students’ capacity in literacy; 3) managing students’ knowledge and higher thinking skill, as considerable as 4) elevating teachers’ professionalism so that learning process can be more effective and efficient. The methods used were lecture, discussion, brainstorming, simulation, and assignment. The materials delivered were about the arrangement and development of literacy-oriented teaching materials. The product produced from the training was implemented in learning process on VII graders. This was aimed to observe whether there was an improvement gained after the training given. The participants of this community service were 13 teachers and 34 students of MTs Al Ikhlas Soe. The results showed that teachers’ skill in arranging teaching materials has been improved. Furthermore, students’ understanding about the concept or their knowledge related to the materials has been upgraded after experiencing the implementation of literacy-oriented learning.
