In this issue we examine the role of the internal OD consultant from that person's viewpoint. Mr. Nufrio is an internal OD consultant at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Oakland, California. He earned his master's degree in public administration from Syracuse University and is a Ph.D. candidate in applied behavioral science and computer technology at the Union of Experimenting Col leges, Cincinnati, Ohio. He has worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Executive Office of the President (President's Reorganiza tion Project), and the National Bureau of Standards. He has written and practiced on third-party conflict management, objective-setting systems, and assessing organizational effectiveness. In this article Mr. Nufrio attempts to derive learnings from a long-term internal consulting project. The "diary"presents his experience in terms of the major phases of the OD effort as he saw them.
