The aim of this study was to evaluate the acute effect of the use of stable and unstable surfaces on electromyography (EMG) activity and coactivation of the scapular and upper-limb muscles during the push-up plus (with full protraction of the scapula). Muscle activation of anterior deltoid (AD), posterior deltoid (PD), pectoralis major, biceps brachii (BB), triceps brachii (TB), upper trapezius (UT), middle trapezius (MT), lower trapezius (LT), and serratus anterior (SA) levels and coactivation index were determined by surface EMG in 20 young men during push-up plus performed on a stable and unstable condition (2 unstable devices applied to hands and feet). The paired t test and Cohen d were used for statistical analysis. The results showed that during the execution of the push-up plus on the unstable surface an increased EMG activity of the scapular stabilizing muscles (SA, MT, and LT) was observed, while AD and PD muscles showed a decrease. During exercise execution on the unstable surface there was a higher index of coactivation of the scapular muscles (SA-MT and UT-LT pairs). No significant differences were observed in TB-BB and AD-PD pairs. These results suggest that the push-up-plus exercise associated with unstable surfaces produced greater EMG activity levels and coactivation index of the scapular stabilizing muscle. On the other hand, the use of an unstable surface does not promote the same effect for the shoulder muscles.
Resumo Uma das preocupações ligadas à pandemia da COVID-19 se refere à capacidade da estrutura do sistema de saúde suportar a demanda por atendimento e tratamento de pessoas acometidas por esta doença. Diante disso, o objetivo deste estudo consiste em criar e mapear o Índice de Infraestrutura de Saúde (IIS) das Unidades da Federação (UFs) brasileiras, bem como verificar a sua distribuição espacial. Para isso, foi aplicada a metodologia de Análise Fatorial por Componentes Principais. Aplicou-se os testes de Bartlett e Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin para verificação da sua adequabilidade. Em seguida procedeu-se a Análise Exploratória de Dados Espaciais. Os dados foram coletados no DATASUS, COFEN, Ministério da Saúde, Portal de Compras do Governo e Portal da Transparência. Quanto aos resultados, o índice revelou que nove estados do Norte e Nordeste registraram os menores índices e cinco estados do Sudeste e Sul apresentaram os maiores índices. Foi registrado um cluster baixo-baixo nos estados do Amazonas e Pará e um Cluster alto-alto em Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e Paraná.
This study evaluated the effects of instability on the EMG activity of scapular stabilizing and upper limb muscles during exercises with axial and rotational load. Twenty male volunteers (20.9 ± 1.8 years, 174.1 ± 0.04 cm, 73.17 ± 8.77 kg) experienced in strength training participated in a crossover design. Muscle activation of anterior deltoid (AD), posterior deltoid (PD), pectoralis major (PM), biceps brachii (BB), triceps brachii (TB), upper trapezius (UT), middle trapezius (MT), lower trapezius (LT), and serratus anterior (SA) were determined on both conditions. Participants performed a single series of 10 repetitions of bench press and fly exercises on stable (bench) and unstable (proprioceptive disc) conditions at 60% of 1-RM. The Friedman test and post hoc Dunn's indicated that the unstable condition showed greater EMG activity for AD (P = .001) and BB (P = .002) on the fly exercise, SA (P = .001) and LT (P = .048) on the bench press, and PM (P ≤ .002) on both exercises. These results show that using an unstable surface in exercises with rotational load provides superior EMG activity of the agonist muscles, while in exercise with axial load, the instability favors EMG activity of the scapular stabilizing muscles.
This paper aims to investigate the impact of race‐based affirmative action for higher education in Brazil, through the effects of applying under a quota versus the open system for Black, Brown, and Indigenous people, on academic performance, time, and delay in completion. The data used were obtained by the survey of the National Student Performance Examination (Enade) from 2016 to 2018. Through the propensity score matching methodologies, entropy balancing, empirical quantile regression strategy, and Lewbel method, a small statistically significant negative impact on students' performance was observed. Significant effects on time and delay in completion were not found in most of the estimators used. We also observed that older students and students who are male, lack, or Indigenous are more likely to choose to enter via racial quotas, while students who live with their parents or spouse and students who have some source of income are less likely to participate in the policy.
Este trabalho busca analisar o efeito da educação, da experiência e da idade no salário de trabalhadores formais no setor de turismo para o Estado do Espírito Santo. Também são investigadas eventuais disparidades salariais entre homens e mulheres e discriminação por raça/cor. Para tal faz-se uso dos microdados da Relação Anual de Informações Sociais (RAIS) dos anos 2006 e 2016, presentes na plataforma do Ministério da Economia. Os resultados obtidos através das regressões por Mínimos Quadrados Ordinários (MQO) e MQO com correção robusta foram estatisticamente significativos em sua vasta maioria. Escolaridade, idade e experiência tiveram os sinais positivos esperados, ceteris paribus, a partir das estimações verificou-se que, em média, as mulheres recebem salários menores que os homens em trabalhos formais no turismo, e não foi verificada uma expressiva diferença salarial por raça/cor.
