Background: Low back pain is a common health problem in the developed countries and is most commonly treated in primary healthcare settings. Improving functional performance in patients with chronic low back pain is of primary importance. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Muscle Energy Technique (MET) & Muscle Energy Technique (MET) along with supervised exercises on pain and functional performance in subjects with chronic nonspecific low back pain.Objective: To evaluate the effect of impact of muscle energy technique along with supervised exercise program over muscle energy technique on quadrates lumborum and iliopsoas on pain and functional disability in non specific low back pain.Methodology: 30 diagnosed low back pain patients were assigned in to 2 groups. The Group A Muscle Energy Technique while Group B received Muscle Energy Technique along with supervised exercise program. Both groups received the selected treatment over a 2 week periods. Outcome measures were evaluated at baseline and 2nd week. Results:The study shows significant improvement in pain and functional disability in both groups those who received MET and MET along with supervised exercise program. But improvement was more marked in group who received MET along with supervised exercise program. Conclusion:The research hypothesis which states that there was more improvement in pain and functional disability who trained with Muscle Energy Technique along with supervised exercise program than only muscle energy technique in chronic non specific low back pain .
Introduction: Low Back Pain (LBP) is considered to be the most salient feature during the postpartum period. The incidence of postpartum symptoms peculiarly back pain varies from women to women with vanishing of symptoms in over 60% in two days postpartum to as high as 82% at 18 months. Aim: To explore the efficacy of kinesio tape on pain and InterRecti Distance (IRD) in women with Postpartum LBP. Materials and Methods: A Quasi-experimental study was conducted at SGT Medical Hospital and Research Institute, Gurugram, Haryana, India in Physiotherapy Out Patient Department (OPD) and Obstetrics and Gynaecology OPD of SGT Hospital. The data was collected from July 2019- August 2020. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (Group A). Group A that performed combined Kinesio Taping along with exercises and hot pack five times/week for six weeks or to the control group (Group B) that followed conventional treatment that included exercises and hot pack. Pain and IRD was measured and analysed using Independent t-test at the baseline, end of 3rd week and at the last day of 6th week. Independent t-test was used to compare the demographic characteristics as well as baseline criterion measures between both the groups. Results: Significant improvement in pain scores (mean value of 13.75 at baseline to 3.75 at last day of 6th week ) and IRD scores (mean value of 28.37 at baseline to 27.38 at last day of 6th week) were observed in group A that received kinesio taping along with conventional treatment in comparison to group B. Conclusion: Group A showed significant improvement in IRD and pain parameters indicating improvement in LBP in postpartum women. Therefore, kinesio taping in combination with exercises may be incorporated in the management programs of the women suffering from postpartum LBP.
Materials & Methods: Self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 500 undergraduate students age ranging from17-24 years old and were enrolled in four various programs in SGT University and met the inclusion criteria. The students responded to the Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire regarding musculoskeletal symptoms. Height and weight measurements were also obtained to determine body mass index. Results:The results revealed that majority of our participants have low back pain during the last 12 months (81%) and last 7 days (57%). BMI scores had a negative correlation with shoulder, wrist/hands and knees. All other body parts had positive correlation with their respective BMI scores. Conclusion:The prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among undergraduate students was found to be high in all the categories of BMI. However there was no significant relationship between BMI and specific body parts MSDs.
Background of the study: Patellofemoral pain syndrome(PFPS) is a syndrome characterized by knee pain ranging from severe to mild discomfort seemingly originating from the contact of the posterior surface of the patella (back of the kneecap) with the femur (thigh bone). Both open and closed kinetic chain exercises are effective in strengthening of the quadriceps muscle. It has been suggested that these exercises are used jointly in the management of PFPS, but no study to date has evaluated the effect of combined open and closed kinetic chain exercises on PFPS. Treatment of this condition is usually conservative, however the effectiveness of many treatments frequently used in clinical practice, including exercise and taping has not been established. Hence the purpose of this study is to compare the short term effects of combined open and closed kinetic chain exercises and medial patellar taping technique in patients with Patello Femoral Pain Syndrome Methodology: 30 subjects with Patellofemoral Pain syndrome were selected for the study and randomized into two groups Group A and Group B.Group A received closed and open kinematic chain excercises for 30 minutes 5 days a week for 6 weeks and Group B were treated with patellar taping for a period of 6wks.Outcome Measures: Pre and Post test values of all the subjects were evaluated using Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and kujala functional knee score. Result:The results has revealed that there is significance noted in Group A (p<0.0001) when compared to group B .Significant difference was also noted in both outcome scales vas and kujala functional score. Conclusion:The results of this study have shown significant reduction of pain and improvement in functional ability of patients with patellofemoral pain sydrome with combined open and closed kinetic chain exercises(Group A) when compared to (Group B) that is medial patellar taping.
