The eye of Callimico goeldii features histologically and histometrically all the characteristics of an organ adapted to diurnal activity. The eyelid apparatus, accommodation system, and external eye muscles are highly differentiated as well as the retina with its fovea centralis. The numerical relations of the three retinal neurons differ considerably between the peripheral and central fundus area indicating a high degree of centralisation which is also found in Cebidae and Callithrichidae.
