RESUMOConsiderando as análises toxicológicas apresentadas pela ANVISA no período 2001-2011 e dados sócio-técnicos referentes às diferentes formas de cultivo da hortaliça, o presente trabalho busca elucidar e distinguir os caminhos que a alface trilha da horta à mesa do consumidor. Alicerçando-se numa ótica mais sustentável e seguindo o referencial bibliográfico disponível, inferiu-se sobre os limites e as possibilidades para a produção orgânica de alface, onde os sistemas de produção de base ecológica aparecem como uma alternativa viável e ascendente para a produção da hortaliça no Brasil, integrando conhecimentos populares e científicos com a conservação da biodiversidade local para o fornecimento de alimentos seguros e soberanos da semente ao prato, para o homem e para a natureza.Palavras-chave: Lactuca sativa L., Agroecologia, agrotóxicos, intoxicação humana. ABSTRACTConsidering the toxicological analyzes presented by ANVISA between 2001 and 2011 and socio-technical data for the different forms of cultivation of vegetables, this paper seeks to clarify and distinguish the ways that the trail of lettuce garden to table. Basing on a more sustainable perspective and following the bibliographic references available it was possible to infer about the limits and possibilities for organic production of lettuce, where the ecological basis of production systems appear as a viable and up alternative to the production of vegetables in Brazil, integrating popular and scientific knowledge to the conservation of local biodiversity for the supply of safe food and rulers of the seed to the plate, for man and nature.
