Self-adhesive resin cements represents a new approach in indirect restorative dentistry, although little is known about its biological properties. The influence of the curing strategy on the biological response of a self-adhesive resin cement (Rely-X Unicem/3M ESPE) was evaluated through methyltetrazolium (MTT) and nitric oxide (NOx) assays. Cylindrical specimens (n = 48) were prepared and cured according to the following strategies: photoactivation with halogen light-curing unit (LCU) Demetron/Kerr, LED LCU Radii/SDI, and chemical activation. A control group with culture medium and a group with lipopolysaccharide, employed for cells stimulation, were used for comparisons (n = 8). After 24 h of direct contact between specimens and rat alveolar macrophages, the biological response was evaluated. Statistical evaluation of the data was performed with Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's test (p = 0.05). The MTT test showed that the specimens cured by halogen light and chemical activation provided higher alterations on cell metabolism. For LED-cured specimens, cell viability was compatible to the results observed in the control group. For the NOx assay, all curing methods were cytotoxic to rat macrophages. Rely-X Unicem demonstrated different cytotoxic effects according to the curing strategy employed.
Purpose. the study examined if the elastic device named Sling Shot could increase the maximum number of repetitions (MNr) and diminish the mean repetition duration in men with different resistance training experience while performing the bench press exercise in multiple sets. Methods. Overall, 22 men were grouped depending on their resistance training experience. the most experienced group (MEG; 11 men, 65.45 ± 26.27 months of training experience) and the less experienced group (LEG; 11 men, 3.09 ± 2.07 months of training experience) performed 3 sets at 80% of the 1-repetition maximum test as fast as possible, with 2-min rest, of the barbell bench press exercise with and without the Sling Shot. two 3-way ANOVA tests, with = 0.05, were used to compare the MNr and mean repetition duration in inter-and intra-group comparisons across the sets. Results. the Sling Shot increased the MNr in the 2 groups throughout the 3 sets. the increase was 50.5%, 65.4%, and 43.8% in the MEG group and 120%, 68.4%, and 43.3% in the LEG group for the 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd sets, respectively. However, there was no difference in the MNr between groups when the Sling Shot was used. Additionally, both groups performed the repetitions with a shorter mean duration with the Sling Shot than without it. No difference was observed between the groups. Conclusions. regardless of training experience, the Sling Shot constitutes an alternative for increasing the MNr and decreasing the mean repetition duration in multiple sets.
Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a very rare, benign, non-neoplastic lesion that typically occurs in the early life, usually before the 3rd decade, it's exceptional in younger than 10 years. We report the diagnosis and treatment of an 8 years old girl with an ABC in the left temporal bone, a very unusual location. Although the histologic characteristics have been well defined, its pathogenesis remains obscure and not totally explained. Total excision nowadays is the treatment of choice.
Introduction This paper presents a case report of immediate implant placement (IIP) with a provisionalization technique to restore function and esthetics with follow‐up after 4 years. Case Presentation Minimally traumatic extraction was performed with IIP, soft‐tissue grafting, and immediate provisional crown. Six months after optimal healing, the patient was submitted to an esthetic restorative work through veneers in lithium disilicate. Fourteen‐month and 4‐year follow‐up visits revealed stability of the peri‐implant soft‐tissues with peri‐implant health status, with the evaluation of the pink and white esthetic score, yielding to mean scores, respectively, in 14 months of 11.62 ± 2.07 (pink esthetic score [PES]) and 18.25 ± 1.46 (PES/white esthetic score [WES]) and in 4 years of 11.0 ± 1.32 (PES) and 17.62 ± 0.65 (PES/WES). Intraoral digital radiographs showed minimal crestal bone level changes throughout the follow‐up period. Thus, IIP is a sensitive technique procedure, and a 3D implant position is crucial for success. Conclusion Immediate implant with grafting to fill the gap and soft tissue augmentation led to less horizontal changes and stable mucosal margin, and immediate provisionalization helped to maintain soft tissue architecture, and proper case selection is key for clinical success.
Introdução: Os bisfosfonatos (BFs) são fármacos amplamente utilizados para tratamento de doenças relacionadas à fragilidade da estrutura óssea, porém a consequência do seu uso culmina na osteonecrose dos maxilares. O paciente pode passar por diversos estágios da doença, tendo cada um deles uma indicação de tratamento. Sendo a multidisciplinaridade primordial para o sucesso da evolução dos casos, é de suma importância que o cirurgião-dentista esteja familiarizado tanto com a medicação em uso quanto com os efeitos causados. Objetivos: O objetivo dessa pesquisa tem por finalidade abordar o impacto do uso de BFs no tratamento de algumas enfermidades e suas complicações diante do desenvolvimento de osteonecrose e demonstrar a importância do conhecimento dessa inter-relação. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma revisão de literatura de caráter exploratório e descritivo utilizando-se SciELO, BVS e PubMed como bases de dados e artigos datados dos anos de 2013 a 2022. Considerações finais: Torna-se necessário a realização de anamnese e exame clínico detalhados, afim de evitar o quadro de osteonecrose, implicando diretamente na qualidade vida do paciente.
