The present research aims (1) to identify and describe the shift of the elements of the nominal groups, (2) to identify and describe the translation accuracy of the nominal group ,(3) to identify and describe the acceptability of the translation of the nominal group, (4) to identify and describe the readability of the translation of the nominal group,This descriptive qualitative research applied purposive sampling technique. There were 822 data of the nominal group. The data collection technique that was used was :(1) observation to get the sentences which contained the nominal group, (2) the questioners and interviewed with key informants to get the accurate translation of nominal group, to get the acceptable translation of the nominal group, to get the readable translation of the nominal group. The research findings show the followings. The shift of the nominal group element can function as guidance to translate the nominal English group. The total score of the translation quality was 2,86, from the rank 1-3, so the quality assessment of the translation of the nominal group was near perfect.
This research aims to see how booster expression as rhetorical devices in several presentation transcripts provided TED.com are translated from English into Indonesian. Given that there are cultural differences in the use of booster expressions from the two countries. Therefore, the objectives of this study are threefold. 1. To find out what presenters use booster expressions as rhetoric tools in several presentations at TED.com, 2. Then look at what translators use translation techniques in translating booster expressions from English into Indonesian. This research is descriptive qualitative research. Data were taken from six presentation transcripts at TED.com and transcripts translated into Indonesian. All data will be categorized according to the rhetorical function of the booster expression. Then the researcher will see what translation techniques are used in translating the booster expression. Data validation was carried out through FGD before the analysis was carried out. The study results revealed that not all the booster expressions could be well translated. This can be seen from the considerable number of deletion techniques applied by the translators. Several assumptions became the reason for selecting this technique, specifically; the cultural differences between the source language and the target language in using booster expressions and the lack of translator competence in translating booster expressions.
This study is about discriminatory language in Pramoedya Ananta Toer's works 'Anak Semua Bangsa', 'Rumah Kaca', and 'Jejak Langkah'. Precisely, it examines forms of discrimination realized through discriminatory expressions. Data for the study were obtained with document analysis and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Results of data analysis show that the unequal use of language in this study relates to social class and gender. Social class discrimination takes the forms of subordination, stereotyping, marginalization, and violence. In addition to workload, gender discrimination also takes similar forms of discrimination. It is of great importance to note, however, subordination forms dominantly appear within the two variables.
