Purpose -Road and transportation has a significant role in the prosperity, economic growth and development of a region. The main purpose of this study is to conduct an in-depth analysis of local residents' attitude towards road and transport infrastructure (China-Pakistan economic corridor, CPEC) and the wider economic, social, cultural and environmental impact on local people.Design/methodology/approach -Data were collected using a questionnaire survey from the local people. Factor analysis and structural equation modelling approach were used to test the relation between the observed and latent variables.Findings -The result discovered that road infrastructure has significant socio-economic and cultural impacts that significantly affect the local people support for CPEC development. It also revealed that more promotion and awareness regarding benefits of the project for dwellers lead to more support of the local residents in the study area.Practical implications -Information provided by this study will help policymakers to gain local resident support for the project and make policies accordingly for the future projects.Originality/value -This study investigated the attitude and support of the local people based on the road infrastructure's social, economic, cultural and environmental impact, which has never been examined in the existing literature.
PurposeThis paper aims to examine the impact of humble leadership on project success. The authors propose that such an effect is mediated by team-building, and top management support moderates the direct relationship (humble leadership and project success) as well as an indirect relationship through team-building.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 337 individuals employed in the information technology sector of Pakistan. A two-step approach consisting confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling was used for analysis. To examine conditional direct and indirect effects, the authors utilized model 8 in PROCESS.FindingsThe results showed that humble leadership is positively related to project success. Furthermore, team-building partially mediates the relationship between humble leadership and project success. Moreover, top management support was anticipated to have a moderating effect on the direct and indirect link (via team-building) between humble leadership and project success.Originality/valueDrawing on the conservation of resources theory, this study found that how humble leadership is vital for project success, and thus, extends the utility of the concept of humble leadership to the project literature.
Construction is dependent on accurate, timely and safe supply chain, otherwise whole project will be halted. Previously, it has found that most construction projects failed to complete on designated time that ultimately surges the cost as well. Although there are various approaches to deal with the situation, there is evidence that collaboration among stakeholders would reduce the risks and enhance the performance. Therefore, the aim of this study is to verify the relationship between the supply chain performance (SCP) with three stakeholder management approaches, namely supplier relationship (SR), customer relationship (CR), and risk and reward sharing (RRS). A total of 585 questionnaires were distributed using systematic probability sampling of listed construction organizations and only 258 responses were returned. The data were analyzed through the Smart PLS Software using two types of function i.e. PLS Algorithm and Bootstrapping. Based on the PLS Algorithm, the path coefficient results confirm that SR, CR, and RRS influence the SCP. It also has found that all three approaches have 56% of explaining power on SCP (R 2 value = 0.560). The bootstrapping function revealed that the three hypotheses supported and this confirmed the hypotheses are true. This study enhances the relationship among stakeholders beyond the traditional collaboration to risk and reward sharing simultaneously. This integration will provide a competitive position as all members share their expertise that will ultimately improve the quality and lead time and enrich the flexibility. Thus, it can be concluded that long-term success is heavily dependent on relationships with the suppliers, customers, risk and reward sharing. This study will help construction managers to understand the importance of good relationships while doing strategic decision making.
Purpose With a foundation in the conservation of resource theory, this paper aims to examine the validity of a conceptual model that explains the mechanism connecting perceived threat of terrorism to production deviance. The link between perceived threat of terrorism and production deviance was examined via emotional exhaustion. Notably, the study evaluated whether the relationship between perceived threat of terrorism and production deviance is mediated by emotional exhaustion and moderated by levels of emotional intelligence. Design/methodology/approach The study is cross-sectional in nature and data were collected from 432 pharmaceutical sales representatives who operate outdoors in the high-risk region. Two-step approach consisting confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling was used for analysis. To examine conditional direct and indirect effects, the authors used model 8 in PROCESS. Findings Results were consistent with prediction made from the conceptual model in that emotional exhaustion partially mediated the relationship between perceived threat of terrorism and production deviance. This was particularly the case when emotional intelligence was low, but not when high. Likewise, perceived threat of terrorism exerted a direct effect on production deviance when emotional intelligence was low, but not when high. Originality/value The study is the first to examine the relationship between perceived threat of terrorism and production deviance. Moreover, no study to date has examined the mediating role of emotional exhaustion between perceived threat of terrorism and production deviance. Finally, up till now, it is unknown that emotional intelligence moderates the relationship of perceived threat of terrorism with emotional exhaustion and production deviance.
This research investigates the corporate environmental performance (CEP) literature toward its financial performance of the firm. CEP is defined as the exercise and practices of companies to choose sensible measures to save and develop environment-friendly green activities. The influence of CEP on the financial performance of the firm via technological capability was examined. Furthermore, public awareness was hypothesized to moderate the impact of CEP on technological capability indicating moderation mediation. When public awareness was high, the relationship between the CEP and technological capability should be stronger. Content analysis was used for data collection. The model was tested using a sample of 1491 observations from the manufacturing companies of Pakistan. The data were collected between the period 2008 and 2017 from the annual reports of the companies, State Bank of Pakistan, and Pakistan Stock exchange. A hierarchical regression analysis was used for data analysis. Using bootstrap analysis, we used model 8 in Stata to examine conditional direct and indirect effects. Results supported the indirect effect of CEP on financial performance through strengthening technological capability. Both direct and indirect effects were significant. Consistent with theoretical assumptions, the indirect effect becomes stronger with high public awareness and diminished with low public awareness. Both theoretical and practical contributions are discussed based on the outcomes.
