Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) serves as one of the tools to analyze the linguistic and the social. This article aims at investigating the relevance of ideas amongst CDA figures-Fairclough, Van Dijk, Wodak, and Kristeva-to both social and literary studies. This includes some significant points such as discourse, social practice, representation, power and intertextuality. The article shows, based on literary study, the aim of CDA applied linguistic aspect is to reveal the hidden in the analytical level of individual, institutional or social, i.e. domination and the abuse of power. CDA figures agreed to some extent that the complex interactions of discourse and social could not be analyzed, unless it utilized the approaches of linguistic and social. In the course of identity, for instance, CDA abridges the social and the linguistic realm. CDA, in this regard, mainly advocates the under-privileged representations of everyday life.Key Words: Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), social practice, literature, power, identity Abstrak: Salah satu aspek analisa bahasa yang dapat dipakai sebagai metode dalam kerangka kajian sosial maupun sastra adalah Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) atau Analisa Wacana Kritis. Artikel ini menekankan relevansi ide tokoh-tokoh CDA dari Fairclough, Van Dijk, Wodak, dan Kristeva dalam kajian sosial dan sastra. Beberapa aspek penting CDA meliputi 'discourse'/wacana, praktek sosial, 'representasi','power'/ kuasa dan intertekstualitas. Melalui studi pustaka, artikel ini menunjukkan tujuan CDA dengan menggunakan aspek bahasa untuk mengungkap apa yang tersembunyi dalam analisa tingkat individu, institusional maupun social, seperti dominasi dan penyalahgunaan kuasa. Para tokoh CDA menyepakati bahwa interaksi antara wacana dan masyarakat tidak dapat dianalisis kecuali dengan menggabungkan pendekatan sosial dan bahasa. Dalam hal analisa problematika identitas, misalnya, CDA mampu menjembatani antara ranah bahasa dengan ranah sosial. This article explores how the intersection of religion, religiosity and public segment is more likely manifest in our everyday life. The background of terror and conflicts occurred in the grass roots enacted the social agents to create a more democratic space that is accessible to people, as Jurgen Habermas stated, with diverse setting of religion, ethnicity, social class, education, tribes and other socio-cultural markers. In a sociology-anthropological view, queries include the aspects of religious tolerance in Islam for diverse faiths, the significance of public sphere related to socio-religious entity and the contribution of Ngebag tradition for the model of harmony for inter-religious encounter in Indonesia. The study shows that the creativity of Ngebag tradition served as the arena among the members of sub-urban community in Karangjati Wetan in terms of the actualization of Islamic values. At the same time, the participation of Karangjati people within the tradition accentuated the open access for everyone in a social relation. The tradition contributes to abridge the religious pole and the social one in that people acquire a mode of learning and inspiration such as the hospitality to guests, charity and socialization. Those instances of inspiration can be carried out in the proportional form of everyday social practices in their own situations and contexts.
Having reviewed what it became the sole significance in religious studies realm, it is more likely that the peaceful outcome serves as the most desirable intention. The peaceful basis for all seems promising in the midst of prolonged disputes that sometimes bor rowed its justification through religion and religiosity. In the context of Judaism, the article discusses Naturei Karta, one of Jewish commu- nities, applying Ninian Smart’s philosophical-political dimensions in religious studies. There are two queries in this article, i.e. how does Naturei Karta com- munity develop the view on the concept of Israel, the state and Jewish commu- nity and how is Naturei Karta entity seen from philosophical-political dimen- sion in religious studies? The study exemplifies that Naturei Karta, actually bear a potential alternative solution based on the inherent concept of “any place and land in the world are for Jewish people”. The concept gives the alter native territorial implication toward the claim of formal state of Israel. It serves not only as a part of solution on Israel-Palestine conflict, but also the issue of identity within various Jewish communities. Until recently, the notion of peace among entities seems pivotal as the ultimate outcome of philosophical dimension found in various faiths and religions.
AbstrakSalah satu aspek modernitas, Oksidentalisme, menjadi bagian dari wacana Islam dan Barat disamping sejarah Orientalisme yang telah mengalami perkembangan panjang. Artikel ini membahas gagasan Oksidentalisme di Indonesia. Dialektika Oksidentalisme-Orientalisme dapat ditelusuri dengan melihat beberapa ide yang disampaikan oleh representasi intelektual Muslim Indonesia-Mukti Ali dan Nurcholis Madjid. Sebagai refleksi kritis terhadap fenomena Oksidentalisme, Carl W. Ernst menggarisbawahi proyeksi keilmuan konstruktif. Selanjutnya, dialog antarperadaban yang disampaikan Osman Bakar dapat membantu mengurai kompleksitas pemaknaan Oksidentalisme seperti misalnya yang dipaparkan Hassan Hanafi atau Ian Buruma. Artikel ini menegaskan bahwa dari sisi historisnya studi Oksidentalisme yang dipaparkan Mukti Ali dan Nurcholis Madjid merupakan aspek akademis tentang institusi Barat. Wacana akademis ini ternyata tidak sama dengan konsep Oksidentalisme seperti yang dipaparkan oleh Hassan Hanafi maupun Ian Buruma. Aspek lainnya adalah saling-belajar, kerjasama dan pemahaman bagian integral masyarakat Muslim dan Indonesia pada umumnya.
