Education is one of the sectors that is badly influenced by covid-19 pandemic where the learning process is carried out from home. This sudden pandemic requires teachers to switch from face-to-face learning into learning domain with technological network. The objective of this study was to describe English teachers’ perception toward the switch from offline to online teaching during lockdown in the midst of covid19 outbreak. The subject of study was 50 English teachers of Senior High School in Banyuwangi. The research method was case study with qualitative research approach. The data needed collected by distributing Google form questionnaire and interview. The result of study indicated that English teachers’ perception about online teaching have not been performed properly, they stated that only for about 35% students who were active and really serious in carrying out online learning and collecting the assignments given on time because of lacking flexibility and access from teachers in controlling students’ learning activities. 68% teachers felt that their workload was heavier if compared to face-to-face learning because they need additional time to operate appropriate online learning media and package interesting learning in order to be able to increase students’ motivation and desire in English lesson.
Due to the developments of social networking in education, teachers have to provide the innovative techniques and select the best way in teaching learning process in classroom, especially in learning English as a foreign language so that the students are interested and eager to learn English. Edmodo as one of online learning media is believed to present an effective solution in the teaching English. This research investigates the effectiveness of blended learning by using Edmodo in teaching English for nursing students. This research used quasi experimental research design. It begins from conducting homogeneity test, deciding the experimental group and control group. Then, it was continued by giving activities to the control class using face to face learning and giving treatments to the experimental class that was using blended learning (combine face to face learning with online learning/Edmodo), then giving the same post-test to both classes. The result indicated that there was a signifcant effect of teaching English in blended learning by using Edmodo on nursing students. It is proved by the value of signifcant column of t-test table and the result is 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. Abstrak Seiring perkembangan jejaring sosial dalam pendidikan, guru harus memberikan teknik inovatif dan memilih cara terbaik dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas, terutama dalam belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing sehingga siswa tertarik dan bersemangat untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. Edmodo sebagai salah satu media pembelajaran online diyakini menghadirkan solusi efektif dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini mengkaji efektivitas pembelajaran campuran dengan menggunakan Edmodo dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris untuk mahasiswa keperawatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian quasi experimental. Dimulai dari melakukan uji homogenitas, menentukan kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan memberikan treatmen kepada kelas kontrol menggunakan pembelajaran tatap muka dan perlakuan ke kelas eksperimen yaitu menggunakan blended learning (menggabungkan pembelajaran tatap muka dengan pembelajaran online/Edmodo), kemudian memberikan post-test yang sama untuk keduanya. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifkan dari kombinasi mengajar tatap muka dengan Edmodo terhadap kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa keperawatan. In this new normal era, the government has implemented new normal policies in various lines including education. This situation requires school community to adapt to this new normal era by complying with the health protocols set by the government. The lecturers as the main learning facilitator have very crucial role in forming new habits for students. Lecturers must be able to adapt in learning activities from the planning to its evaluation. Learning innovations and the usage of suitable and diverse media for learning significantly hold up enhancing the educational quality in the new normal era. One of the appropriate learning model solutions as a way to adapt in the new normal era is by applying hybrid learning in the Intensive English class. Hybrid learning model is a learning type which mixes face-to face and online by utilizing technological sophistication. This study aimed to explain hybrid as a form of learning solution on intensive English Program at Stikes Banyuwangi as an adaptation form to face the new normal era. The results of study indicated that hybrid learning make students easier in practicing the conversation during Intensive English class and can improve their learning outcomes and scores, especially in their speaking. 71.7% students stated that hybrid learning increase effectiveness, efficiency and their attractiveness, so it is quite effective to be applied. Then 85 students (81.8%) prefer hybrid learning than full online learning or totally face to face learning.
Limited Face-to-face Learning is a government initiative program to solve the problem of learning loss during online learning in the Covid 19 outbreaks by implementing strict health protocol procedures to prioritize student safety. This research aimed to describe the preparation for learning in the new normal period, explore the practice of limited face to face learning in English subject, and teachers’ strategies in teaching English in the post pandemic. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with a case study with the total respondents were 45 English teachers of Senior high school in Banyuwangi. The data needed was obtained through questionnaire and interview. The findings showed that the implementation of limited face to face learning had followed the government rules in the new normal period. English teaching learning process had generally been going well and was presented through several interesting strategies and fun methods, although a number of obstacles arise such as the reduction in school hours and the division of student groups or shifts in the learning process which encouraged the teachers to apply blended learning by still utilizing learning platforms in their teaching. The most favorable learning platform was Whatsapp.
