Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and relapsing skin disorder with a high prevalence worldwide. Cellular abnormalities associated with AD include epidermal hyperplasia and Th2-driven skin inflammation. Lipid composition of the stratum corneum (SC) in AD patients differs from that of healthy individuals. Notably, SC ceramides contain reduced levels of very long-and ultra-long-chain fatty acids in AD. Peroxisomes are involved in the b-oxidation of complex lipids, however, their function, so far, has little been studied in the skin. We
