Internet of things (IoT) has been widely used in development of technology recently. IoT could be interpreted as communication between devices using internet. The advance of IoT technology can ease lot of works, including king control of hydroponic system, so plant treatment can be done anywhere and anytime. Hydroponic is the best solution to people in urban area, who lacks land for greening. Components required in the IoT are devices that have an IoT module, device(s) to connect to Internet such as router or modem, and a database where everythings collected. The purpose of this research is to utilize IoT technology to monitor and control the condition of plants on the hydroponics system remotely. Sensor results processing from end device microcontroller will be sent by XBee to the server microcontroller and displayed to ThingSpeak web server. An application is made for ThingSpeak-connected smartphones that able to monitor and control the system anytime and anywhere. The control will send a logic of one or zero to ThingSpeak and forwarded to the device.
Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia has Faculty of Engineering, which is committed to empower its surrounding communities. This empowerment is implemented based on its core values. The present community empowerment activities have been planned through a series of agreements and the main goal of the activities is to develop the entrepreneurship based on the strength of the area. This paper discusses the assistance given by Faculty of Engineering in designing piping installation for supporting aquaponic activities in Desa Sampora. The project was divided into three steps. First, this project focused on observation and data collecting. This first step also involved discussion with experts. Second, it focused on the design process. The result of the first step was used in the design. Third, the design was implemented and installed in the location. All the steps required careful planning to minimize errors. The expected target of these activities was an aquaponic piping design that is feasible to implement to support sustainable and productive entrepreneurship. The final result was piping installation that can grow 120 plants, is easy to clean up, and has area efficiency.
Catfish cultivation in Sampora village has developed and produces catfish which, apart from being sold, are also used to make smoked catfish or make catfish floss and various types of fast food such as mangut catfish, pepes catfish and catfish meatballs. The Community Service Team of the Faculty of Engineering, not only provide guidance on processing catfish into healthy food, but also provide simple bookkeeping training for Sampora village women. The women of Sampora village are not only trained to process catfish into food, but also can calculate the selling price of products that are profitable but still affordable by the community. In this community service, an example of calculating the selling price of catfish floss is given, so that it can be seen how much profit is earned per unit time (month). However, this bookkeeping can be applied to other products.
