Aim/Purpose: The objective of this study was to assess the interrelationships among knowledge management infrastructure, knowledge management process, intellectual capital, and organization performance. Background: Although knowledge management capability is extensively used by organizations, reaching their maximum financial and non-financial performances has not been fully researched. Therefore, organizations need to optimize their performance by exploiting knowledge management capability through the accumulation of intellectual capital, where the new competitiveness is shifting from tangible to intangible resources. Methodology: This study adopted a positivist philosophy and deductive approach to accomplish the main goal of this research. Moreover, this research employed a quantitative approach since this study is concerned with causal relationship between variables. A questionnaire-based survey was designed to evaluate the research model using a convenience sample of 134 employees from the food industry sector in Jordan. Surveyed data was examined following the structural equation modeling procedures. Contribution: This study highlighted the potential benefits of applying the knowledge management capabilities, intellectual capital, and organizational performance to the food industrial sector in Jordan. Future research suggestions are also provided. Findings: Results indicated that knowledge management infrastructure had a positive effect on knowledge management process. In addition, knowledge management process impacted positively intellectual capital and organization performance and mediated the relationship between knowledge management infrastructure and intellectual capital. However, knowledge management infrastructure did not positively associate to organization performance. Recommendations for Practitioners: The current model is designed to help managers and decision makers to improve their management capabilities as well as their organization financial and non-financial performance through exploiting the organizational knowledge management infrastructure and intellectual capital approaches. Recommendation for Researchers: Our findings can be used as a base of knowledge to conduct further studies about knowledge management capabilities, intellectual capital, and organization performance following different criteria and research procedures. Impact on Society: The designed model highlights a significant organizational performance approach that can influence Jordanian food industrial sector positively. Future Research: The current designed research model can be applied and assessed further in other sectors including banking and industrial sectors across developed and developing countries. Also, we suggest that in addition to focusing on knowledge management process and intellectual capital as mediating variables, future research could test our findings in a longitudinal study and examine how to affect financial and non-financial performance.
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating effect of intellectual capital and innovation on the relationship between transformational and transactional leadership and organizational performance in Jordanian banks located in Irbid city.Design/methodology/approachA questionnaire that targeted 350 respondents resulted in 298 usable ones with a response rate of 85.14 percent. To test the research hypotheses, a structural equation model was conducted, in addition to descriptive statistics that provided background on the respondents.FindingsThe findings indicate that transformational and transactional leadership relate positively to organizational performance. The results also support the argument that intellectual capital and innovation played mediating roles in transformational and transactional leadership and organizational performance.Practical implicationsThe present study provides managers with empirical proof that possessing strong intellectual capital in its three dimensions seems to help the banking sector in Jordan to reinforce their ability to generate both radical and incremental innovation. Also, applying an effective leadership style will motivate and lead to superior performance.Originality/valueAlthough papers have shown that leadership style is an important factor influencing employees' performance and outcomes, this is one of the few studies that investigates the interrelationships between leadership styles, intellectual capital, and innovation on organization performance. Furthermore, it is the first to test the model on the banking sector in Jordan.
Purpose: The purpose of this research is to investigate the interrelationships among Knowledge Management (KM), Information Systems (IS), and Employees' Empowerment (EE) on Employees' Performance (EP). Design: Accordingly, a structural model is developed that delineates the interactions among these constructs and explores the mediating effect of employees' empowerment on the relationship between KM, IS and employees' performance. A questionnaire-based survey was designed to test the aforementioned model based on dataset of 287 employees' Pharmaceutical industries in Jordan. Results: The model and posited hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling analysis. The results indicated that KM and IS positively and significantly affect EE, in which the latter impact EP as well. However, neither KM nor IS proved to be positively related to EP. Additionally, EE positively and significantly mediated the relationship between KM and EP; besides the relationship between IS and EP. Originality: This is one of the few studies which investigate the interrelationships among Knowledge Management (KM), Information Systems (IS), and Employees' Empowerment (EE) on Employees' Performance (EP), and the first to test the model on companies in the pharmaceutical industries in Jordan.
Direct relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and firm performance has been extensively studied by scholars in several majors. The direct examination of this relationship seems to be relatively imprecise since many other variables have indirect influence on this relationship. Therefore, this study takes into considerations Transformational Leadership (TFL) as a probable mediator in the role CSR plays to enhance the firm performanceamong Information Technology (IT) employees in banking sector. Data were collected from IT employees within IT departments from 25 banks in Jordan through a questionnaire survey. 354 valid questionnaires were returned and analyzed using different quantitative techniques. This research finds that CSR has a significant influence on firm performance and three of its dimensions, namely, economic responsibility, ethical responsibility, and discretionary responsibility have a significant effect on firm performance, whereas legal responsibility has no remarkable effect. It also finds that CSR has a positive influence on TFL. Specifically, discretionary responsibility has a significant effect on TFL, whereas other dimensions have no significant contribution to TFL. As well as, it finds that TFL has a positive contribution to the firm performance. Inspirational motivation and individualized consideration have the only remarkable contribution to the firm performance. Finally, it has been revealed that TFL partially mediates the relationship between CSR and firm performance.
The aim of this study was to study the relationship between knowledge management in its operations; including knowledge generation, knowledge sharing, knowledge usage and business intelligence; including OLAP, data mining on the performance of organizations in the branches of the Housing Bank in Irbid, Jordan. A total of 126 questionnaires were distributed to the sample of the study. A multiple regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses of the study. The study concludes that there was a positive relationship between the knowledge management processes and the performance of organizations. Moreover, the components of business intelligence had positive impacts on the performance of organizations. The results have some enormous implications for the banking sector of Jordan.
