Traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the axillary artery is a rare sequela of injury to shoulder region. We report here a unique case of delayed presentation of axillary artery pseudoaneurysm after a blunt injury, clinically mimicking soft tissue tumor without evidence of gross bony injury. The gentleman presented after six months of injury with a progressively growing mass in left axillary region and neurological deficit. Ultimate management of the lesion was surgical resection and Saphenous vein graft interpositioning. Unfortunately the lack of subsequent neurological recovery parallels some of the findings in the literature, from cases where decompression of the brachial plexus was not undertaken soon enough.
D-dimer and factor VIII may be used as yardstick for systemic adjuvant therapy in node negative < 1 cm breast cancer. D-dimer may prove to be a safe, convenient and easily available biomarker which can be combined with conventional sentinel node biopsy in clinically node negative breast cancer to assess metastatic disease in axilla and reduce false negative results.
Giant coronary artery aneurysms are exceptionally uncommon with an incidence of 0.02%. The natural history and prognosis of giant coronary artery aneurysm are still not well known.
Objective: Breast cancer has emerged as the most common malignancy among females during the last few years. Early diagnosis is essential for disease management so research is underway to identify potential serological bio markers with acceptable sensitivity and specificity. The current study was undertaken to compare the levels of serum PSA in patients with benign breast diseases, carcinoma breast and normal controls. Methods: The study was conducted jointly by the departments of Biochemistry and Surgery. Fifty patients of breast carcinoma were enrolled in the study, along with 50 cases of benign breast disease and 50 healthy controls. Serum PSA levels were estimated by Roche Elecsys modular Cobas e 411(electrochemiluminescence immuno assay) (Manheim Germany). Results: We did not find any significant differences in the PSA levels between normal controls, patients with benign breast disease as well as females presenting with breast carcinoma. No correlation was observed between serum PSA levels with clinical staging as well as histopathological grading. Conclusions: According to previous published studies, tumor levels of PSA are valuable for breast cancer patient prognosis, since patients with PSA positive tumors have much longer disease-free and overall survival. PSA levels in the serum of breast cancer patients are not significantly different from the PSA levels in the serum of normal women. Based on these data we conclude that serum PSA levels are not useful for breast cancer patient diagnosis or monitoring. A 48-year-old male presented with progressive exertional dyspnea and was found on transthoracic echocardiography to have multiple right atrial masses (Fig. 1). There was severe tricuspid regurgitation with an estimated pulmonary artery pressure of 85 mmHg. A contrast-enhanced computed tomogram of the chest revealed filling defects in both pulmonary arteries and a 2 Â 2.5 cm mass in the right atrium (Fig. 2). At the time of surgery, three foci of myxomas were excised with partial thickness of the atrial wall (Fig. 3). Longitudinal
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
